video description
Oh and grow your eucalyptus in a container you can move into your greenhouse next winter. They aren't cold tolerant. They are also pretty slow to grow as seedlings.

Thank you for the video. Gardening is my main hobby and my family aside the biggest source of happiness I have in my life. I've been feeling very blue during the winter months since that part of my day that I spend in the garden loading up on nature and greenery and happiness isn't there. I'll throw some winter sowing containers into the snow in the following days but other than that it will still be 6 weeks or more until it's time to sow on seed trays. I'm from southern Finland and the spring doesn't really begin here until April. Your video gave me happiness and hope that even though the winter feels hopelessly long at times, the time will come when there will be light and greenery and life again. Thank you for letting me tag along, watching you do your spring preparations nurtured my wilting inner gardener.

Hi Garden Answer community! I have a question for all the veteran seed starters here. Im new to seed starting under grow lights and I now have a bunch of new babies growing in my kitchen light stand.
I stared all my seeds by heavily sowing in a 2. 5 inch pot and its now time to prick them out to give them room in their own home. My questions are- what size trays or pots do you have the most success potting up into so that you dont end up with plants all over the house? And do you only put one plant per pot ( vs. two to three and then separating them further once they go out into the garden?
Thanks Laura for the brilliant, yet always approachable, Masterclass of all things seed to harvest!

I love the information you provide for all things gardening. you have truly helped me over come my fear of gardening. I've always been intimidated by it before. I was wondering at what point you plant the seeds in the jugs? my echinacea says sow outdoors in spring or late summer at least 12 weeks before first frost. obviously i cant do the fall planting so id like to use your method but cant figure out when i need to sow them. the other part of the packet says frost free with picture of the US and its saying april 1st. is that when i do this? or earlier like february?

seriously?
I thought you said the 2nd year you tried lightly poking with a pencil a grid of planting holes in the water jug soil, (one in each corner and one in the middle for instance) and dropped your seeds in each hole and pressed them in rather than using the scattering method for sowing. It resulted in seedlings that were well spaced apart for thining and allowed easier access to lifting out individual plants so you had less damage to roots and stems when separating the seedlings when repotting. It also reduced wasting seeds and seedlings.

Hi Laura! I don't have room anywhere for the grow shelves and lights, but wish I could do the seed starting. I forgot about the winter sowing, so didn't save any jugs for it, maybe next year! I'm looking forward to seeing all of your seeds start to sprout. How are Benjamin's seeds doing? Also, I don't remember seeing an update on the biodegradable pots and how they worked. Please let us know. Happy Birthday to Benjamin and Samantha Grace! Thank you so much for sharing!

Growing hardy Cactus palm yuccas pitcher plants from seed. Germination takes weeks to a year( for a few. Use heat mat helps if it's not warm enough Use LED light bulb for more light they really work well. I leave them on. Really worth the effort you get many rare. Cool hard to find plants for much less. Just takes some time and patience! Just fun to see what happens! Saves you money and you have extras too!

Could you do delphiniums and foxgloves using the winter sowing method? How do you decide what to winter sow and what to start in seed trays. One more question, do you recommend using vermiculite? I think you used it a year ago and was wondering if that helped with moisture. I am going to try winter sowing for the first time this year and I'm a little nervous! Thanks for being such an inspiration!

Good Morning, I tried looking through all of the comments. Where are the plain white seed packets are from? I know you use a lot from Johnny Seeds but they usually label the outside of the packet with their name. My hubby is begging me to get my seed list in order so we can start for the season, he is more on top of it than i am! Can not wait for Spring!
