Growing up we had a white paper birch tree in our front yard in Utah. They used to be a popular tree in Utah, but in the 90s they all started dying off. The birch bark borer gets them here. Also, we don't have the right soils. I was surprised to see your birch trees so healthy since the climate in Ontario Oregon is similar to us. I miss our tree. It was about 25 years old when it died. I haven't seen a healthy birch in Utah in 20 years.

Well watching one of your older videos while antiquing with your mom and sister I saw that you mentioned a game called Catan. I looked it up and it looks complicated can you talk about it someday or can you show us how you all play? this is the first Ive ever heard of this game. And do you have a video out where you talk about edible flowers? Still catching up on your fabulous videos!

We just redid our front beds after pulling out 20 year old evergreens so we could redo our siding. I didn't realize it was so difficult to find shrubs/trees that stay green in the winter that aren't boxwoods. I'm in NY in zone 7b. If anyone has suggestions, I'm all ears. So far we've planted a viburnum, a daphne moonlight, a spirea, and a weilega.

Hi Laura and Aaron! The beds you did in front are so pretty! It's nice that you were able to get such nice sized plants and get them in for the graduation party. I definitely like it that they lowered the berms, it looks so much nicer now. And the mulch looks really good! Loved the before and after drone shots, Aaron! Thank you so much for sharing!

Beautiful plantings and gorgeous house. The front porch looks a bit busy. Perhaps less clutter and instead add a some even larger planters in a nice contrast color like rust, or black or charcoal grey to really make it pop and maybe two or three larger glass and metal lanterns. Keep a few of the milk jugs though if that's to their taste.

Pro tip: if you grab your usual plastic rake and kind of just fluff up the mulch, so lightly rake it side to side, the dirt will settle back under the mulch. :) I've discovered this last year when I premulched a bed and then stood there with a bunch of spilled dirt around newly planted stuff. :)
Gorgeous plants as always. Good job!

Laura question for you: I notice you plant your plants with the root ball the way it comes out of the container - no freeing the roots or anything. I was taught to pull the roots away from the root ball as this will help the roots get gripped into the soil. I would love to know your thoughts - thanks!

I wondered if you were going to use an auger and then you addressed why you didnt. I was hoping you wouldnt use one for the reasons you mentioned. Boy, they have a lot of garden space to fill in. Sometimes I wonder if plants will get too big but I guess they can keep them trimmed.
