Hartley Update/Garden Plans & Organizing the Flower Shed!
video description
I'm sure Laura will come up with the perfect solution. She is so creative/inventive.
P. S. Love that you kept your Grandpa's table. I only knew one grandparent, my grandfather, who was such a special part of my life. I have a few items that were his and every time I look at them, it brings a smile to my face and I'm filled with happy memories.

As I heard you mentioning using a step on a path leading up to the Hartley, I had an immediate concern for safety of the people using that path. It would seem that you, your family and guests will use the path and often times may have a glass, a plate or a vase of flowers in your hands distracting attention to a step.
I used to see people stumble and sometimes fall when negotiating a low curb step coming and going from our laundry room. Thankfully, the curb was removed in the path section with a small area regraded for a smooth gradual change of height along a section of the path. Now, no more people falling and tripping on one little step.
If regrading isn't possible perhaps a ramp with the look of an old fashioned bridge with handrails might be safer and easier for all and especially helpers traversing with a food cart or sweet little kids toting toys.
Additionally, steps, even one, can be an impossible challenge for anyone using a mobility chair or another assistive devices.
It is a pleasure to watch your videos. Laura and Aron a big chunk of deep appreciation to you and your family for adding much learning, inspiration, joy and yes, homework to my life. I live in New England with climate and soil different enough from your region that I have to research out the best plants for this place. Loves and hugs, Lois

You know what Laura you know you re space and if you have to take your time that ok. You have so many things going on and have already achieved so much it takes time to get it the way you want. No matter what people say everything is coming along and all the peace s are falling into place perfectly.
You have done an amazing job so far. You and Erin are the best team also all the help you have. Not only that you still have to maintain all the other choices. WOW. The Hartley looks fantastic. The Shed looks so so sweet and perfect cupboards for the space. I love the light fixtures.
Everything you have done so far looks phenomenal.
Don t forget you re a Mum of 2, a wife that cooks and cleans. You have a fabulous husband who helps so so much. Also managing that big property. Take a minute and be so proud of how much you guy s have accomplished already.
Sorry for the rant but everything looks amazing. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. Appreciated.

Oh my goodness, I got my coffee and watched this video. Then got a second cup of coffee and watched it again! This video made me so happy. I loved peaking over your shoulder as you went through your plans going forward. The cut flower shed is going to serve you so well. And when you said that you were going to paint it, I was saying, yes yes, paint it soft green. My husband in the other room hollers, who are you talking to? I walk through my garden every morning. But not before I watch you in your garden. Thank you thank you much for all of your videos. I have learned so much, and gotten so many ideas from you. Watching you and Aaron along with the kids truly living life in the garden makes my heart sing.

I can't wait to see the design you put together around the Hartley. It will be beautiful! I absolutely love your shed! I would love to have one just like it. I also like the light's you chose for the outside. I am needing some to go on my front porch so I might visit HD and see if our store carries them. You always make things look easy to do. You and Aaron make a great team! My husband sounds just like Aaron. Just put something up there and if you don't like it we can change it later. Just seeing all the beautiful garden's at your house and your mom's house makes me envious of all the beauty you get to look at. Maybe one day I will just have a smidgen of what you guy's have.

SUGGESTION: The raised area centerpiece could be something pretty with a 'sprinkler' feature - whenever you want to either mist or sprinkle for the kids to play under. I've also seen some that were in the ground and you can have water pumped up and out about 6 feet in air making a fantastic fun-ground for kids (and adults) to walk under. But I can really imagine a falling water centerpiece and the kids playing giant checkers or tic-tac-toe underneath or just get our the trucks and cars, LOL. Love how you are planning for 'views' from all four sides including your home. Big plans and big ideas are needed in this wonderful space. So happy for you guys.

Love watching your videos, Laura and Aaron! They are a part of my daily routine. With that said, please don t take offense. I was surprised you want to use gravel around the perimeter of the Hartley. The whole main house has a gravel perimeter. I just thought you would have lush grass around it to compliment the grand, white structure. It just seems that gray gravel would hold the heat and not make the structure pop against the surroundings. These are just my thoughts. Thanks again for all your videos. I look forward to watching and rewatching every single one! -Michelle in Michigan.

Laura, I really like that you don t have it all done. Most people don t or can t get everything done all at once because of time or money or both, which in my case is the latter. With you going slow you ve been able to teach us how to do things. It has taught me that it s okay not to have it all finished. Yes if we had lots of money then we could get a contractor and get it all done in a shorter amount of time but where s the fun in that. The journey is what makes you grateful for things.

I'm currently watching back (for the second time) all of the old GA videos. Just by chance this morning after watching this tour of the prospective Hartley garden, I'm watching the garden tour of April 2017 (the first full spring at the house. It really is like a time machine to see Laura walking around the gazebo and brick patio area discussing all of the plantings there juxtaposed with the blank slate & Hartley of today. A very hard feeling to describe. kind of a thrilling amusement.

Everything is coming along so well! Laura, do you guys have issues with rodents, specifically rats, eating your blueberries? I have worked so hard over the last 2 years getting a bunch of container blueberries planted and set up up on my deck, followed your advice on drip irrigation setup for them, done everything I can to get them to really berry this year for me. And rats are getting them each night. Do you or does anyone have any advice on battling these little furry jerks?

I loved watching you share the history of the vases and table. The mess on the floor is adorable. Means this space is put to the use it was meant to be. Including the mystery board falling down then using it to clean up was funny. I like that a lot. When pieces go missing I always say there are always widgets missing or left over. Even the fact that you mentioned doing laundry felt comfortable, homey. Very laidback and yet fun. Great video!

I wasn't going to say anything about painting that beautiful wood wall, but maybe consider a sort of white wash. Perhaps it would take down the yellow/orange cast and you could still see the wood grain. Just a thought. Maybe that would be too rustic for your more elegant taste. I love seeing either. What ever you do, we all know it will be stunning in the end. Thanks for the updates. I've been waiting to see them. Dream on!

THANK YOU for sharing your plans for around the Hartley with us! I'm looking so forward to seeing you develop that area! Gives me inspiration to continue to develop the gardens in my property! Looking forward to seeing how the flagstone path turns out as well! Great job on the cut flower shed. It's really coming along and as much as I love natural wood look, I agree with you that a lighter colour would film/photograph better.
