Hi Danielle, New daffodils that I added to my garden this year are: Apricot Whirl, Pink Charm, Precocious and Salome. They are beautiful and I recommend all of them! I've grown Dutch Master and Ice Follies for years and they are ideal for naturalizing. Cheerfulness and Yellow Cheerfulness are double daffodils that naturalize well and have a bit of a sweet scent. I'd like to grow Fritillaria next year. How -stinky- are they? I read they are deer resistant, which is good for my garden. I think I heard you say you grow Rubra, which is orange. I see there is Lutea, which is yellow. Do you know if they look/perform the same except for the color? Thank you. Zone 8b in western WA

So much to love about the new looks in your garden this season. Yes, agree to more daffs! I'm 64, like another commenter, and am just starting with cut flowers. Bulbs are my new best friends for the exact reasons you mentioned. I'm growing what must be the Replete daffs. but Also unmarked when purchased. I have created a Sunset Path border. Will definitely have to add that sunset split corona. And how do you get so much beauty from your pieris! My blooms are present but sparse. Continue to be inspired by your approach to blending landscape with cut flowers. I, too, have morning shade-hot aftnn sun in an area. Continue learning from you. Blessings, gs

What a beautiful arrangement Danielle! I agree about planting things that are perrenial and easy as we get a little older. I'm already feeling the back and knees only a couple years into my 40s! You mention wearing gloves while harvesting daffodils, is it because of sap? I am loving and appreciating daffodils so much more now. I have alot of deer pressure where I live, and it's much too stressful trying to keep up with spraying so that I get Tulip blooms. My guess is replete on the daffodil. I am growing Delnashaugh for the first time this year. Hoping to add at least another 100 daffodil bulbs next Fall -

I used to really not like daffodils, because I only knew the yellow Dutchmaster type and I lived in an area without deer pressure. Now that I live in a rural area with herds of deer and I-ve discovered all the types of daffodils available, I-m a major fan! I am in love with the Pheasant-s Eye daffodils and am really drawn to any that feature whites, peaches, or recurved petals. I planted several new varieties last year and cannot wait to see them! Soon! I-ve seen others growing Pipit and I need to add that one. It has a -reverse- sort of coloration that is so appealing.

I planted about 120 Daffodil bulbs last fall. I'm in zone 5B in Maine. Only about 3 are peeking through. Nothing else. I'm hoping it's because it's their first year? Or maybe just because I'm in Maine. Some Grape Hyacynth I planted is coming up but that is also just about an inch high. Not despairing yet. But when I see folks in my same zone that actually have flowers at this point I do get a bit nervous. I've also never planted Daffodils before. But I did use a measuring tool to get the depth right. Love your garden and love the path with the arches.

Danielle, your daffodils look like the Replete daffodils that I grew in my garden last year for the first time, and I planted more of them (from Walmart) last fall. Just last weekend, the foliage has started to emerge. yay!
I enjoyed hearing a cardinal singing in the background, that sound always makes me smile. I'm thankful that the birds are back and that soon I'll have daffs blooming in my flowerbeds. I have lots of spring cleanup chores to do, but it's been horribly windy and cold here (zone 5a) so that will have to wait a bit.

I notice you don't fill your beds up to the top. I love that, the guy at Lowes asked me if I was filling my new bed up or half way. I didn't know you could do halfway only because of the shade it gets from the side panels. But I guess after they grow taller it won't matter lol. I'm gonna do mine that way with my other beds. I just put up a 5ft by 10ft 8in deep. Omy did it take forever lol and costly.

I also have a tricky light situation- morning shade and with a few hours of intense late afternoon sun. Coincidentally enough it-s also by a downspout and I was considering a macrophylla. Its been empty for awhile and I guess at this point I just have to trial something, haha. Thanks for the reminder and encouragement that plants can be moved if their growing conditions aren-t right. I-m excited to watch as your new flowerbeds evolve.

54 this yr, you are so right, I can-t garden like I use to despite downsizing to a much smaller property and garden. Also have critters that are into the tulips every yr. I planted some peachy pink hyacinth past fall and am loving it. Wanted to make a list of complementary daffodils and your peachy ones are perfect. I will keep my eye out, if I can get them at a discount like you, I will be happy! Love your triple arbor so much!

6 years ago I planted dozens of tulips and ended up watching them have their heads chopped off! Turkeys, deer, squirrels, & billions of bunnies. I was told they all hated daffodils. I will never plant any bulbs again with out beautiful daffodils. I never like yellow especially the shade that daffodils tend to be but I found white ones, gorgeous white ones. They do their jobs very well being the security service of the garden.

Love your videos, Danielle - I can't plant tulips because I've got a major deer problem, but I'm not sure I'd plant that many anyway because as I age, I've become more and more strategic about planting things that are not labor intensive. Hardy perennials and flowering shrubs are definitely the way to go! I love what you're doing with your layout. And the arbor looks great, I love the way it's created a vista!

Beautiful yard! I noticed you only have your yard partially fenced in. You don-t have problems with the neighbors pets digging in your raised beds or yard? One year after I planted mine my neighbors dog totally ran into my yard and destroyed one of my raised bed plantings. I completely fenced in my yard after that. I love daffodils too and have hundreds planted in my yard.

Today I had walked my garden and enjoyed the many Daffodils. I was just thinking of doing more of the Daff's instead of the tulips for the same reason, they just keep on growing and spreading with little effort on my part. Plus the gophers leave them alone. I am aiming for easier and less work as I age which I am nearing 60.

I highly recommend Narcissus Chromacolor. What is particularly great about this division 2 daffodil is that the -pink- color really stands out, unlike others that can be a bit washed out, and better still, the color changes as it ages, resulting, in a mix of peachy pink, soft yellow and white hues when planted en masse

I'll be 64 this July, I'm depending on perennials in very flower out there. I sowed many myself this winter to save the $$$, as well as a few annuals, and plenty of ground covers to help with weeding. Gracie's daff is really different, love that one. Lovely bouquet as always, nice to see Rocky looking so good -. -

I think your idea to do more daffodils and alliums is a good one. I love daffodils. They are so much less trouble than tulips and do so well March and April. They come back so well, and the range of blossoms is growing as new varieties hit the market. I truly think they are under appreciated.

So glad to see what poppy seedlings emerging look like. That is helpful for me as I am new to planting them. Also, interesting how you pick daffodils. I always learn so much watching what you do. I concur. more perennial bulbs and plants to grow, cut, and design with. Thank you Danielle!

So glad to see Rocky. I watched your video from last year when you got him back and wondered how he was doing. Your bouquet was stunning! Lucky friend! I would go with more daffs but I say that because the deer ate all of my tulips (first time growing them in our yard.

It's really coming together. Can't wait to see your grandmother's garden transform. And I think it's a smart idea with the bulbs. Plus daffodils are so pretty, and alliums are one of my favorites! My goal is to have as many perennials as possible for cutting.

I am in love with daffodils! We grow about 1, 000 of them on our 1 acre property. This year, I've planted Poeticus, Thalia, and Split Corona Cassata. I'm working on getting daffodils from every division, if I can. I've got six so far.
