While working in an off grid log cabin in the forest, I was happy to hone my self reliance skills to hand-make the DIY sink for the rustic wood kitchen from copper. Click on or text myselfreliance to 500-500 to get your free Audible download with a 30 day trial. Thank-you Audible for sponsoring this video! Cali, our Golden Retriever, joins me as I build the sink from copper, hand forming it from a 3' x 8' sheet of 20 oz copper that a kind subscriber gave me for this project, David Oxley from Precision Fabrication in Parry Sound, Ontario. Thanks David! Soldering the sink with an old fashioned, antique soldering iron that I heated up on the woodstove was challenging since I had not done this type of work for 20 years or more. But, I think the final results are going to be well worth the effort. As with all of the projects on the log cabin, it's more work doing this alone and with hand tools, but it's very rewarding once the work is done. Speaking of that, in my self reflections

Thanks for watching! Before you get too upset with the commercial, please know that I only use and endorse products and services that I really believe in and that I would use regardless of the support from the brand. As you know, I am a strong proponent of continuing education and self improvement and there are some key tools I use myself to contribute to my self reliance.
On that note, starting next week, I'll be uploading a video series called something along the lines of 52 Weeks to Self Reliance (in addition to my regular wilderness homestead videos) in response to the overwhelming number of private requests I get to provide mentorship. Up until recently, I did provide business consulting and personal coaching services that not only helped people improve their lives, it helped fund my own life change to simplification. I really don't have the time to provide one on one mentoring any longer. Instead, I would rather give everyone access to all of the tips, tricks and tools I used to pay back the creditors so I'm no longer 750, 000 in debt, get back on my feet financially, reduce stress and dedicate my life to things I truly believe in, like simple living, getting back to nature and helping people.
Thank-you so much for your support and patience. I'll see you next week here at the cabin.

Normally I am super chill and calmed watching you and loving the sounds made by the tools and wood magnified by my bose headphones so I dont disturb my husband while he sleeps, but TONIGHT I WAS FREAKED OUT! Omg watching you without gloves and arm protection was the worst! I kept saying dont slip. dont cut yourself. one wrong move and you could slice too many parts! Praise God you came out ok but man, please protect yourself lol and help me be stress free geez! On that I thank you for the skill you showed and am still a fan. Loved the end result. And I appreciate the tender tact you have when speaking to those of us who wish to live the way you can and experience life the way you do. I live vicariously thru you as you immerse me thru the videos. I would DiE if I did it in person lol!

I have watched two of your videos so far, i find them strangely memorizing, as I watch you I can see you are no slouch, I watch you swing the hammer and know you know what you are doing, to be sure there are a few things I would do different, but, who cares to each their own. I like the sink, you made the same mistake I would have likely made (not building them daily, I have not watched further but I am expecting at least a partial copper counter, but surprise me. As for your doggie, less food and more action might be the correct formula, doggies need aerobics, lol.

Shawn, London calling to faraway towns. Just want to say how much I am enjoying watching your efforts from urban Brixton here in South West London. I came across your fabulous cabin project looking for inspiration to build a humble shed in my garden. I will seriously need to up my game. Quick question: Is the mortar you made to seal between the logs ash and soil only? Best wishes and hope all is going well. Final question, you are planning to write the How to book? Alex

I just read the pinned message. I was literally thinking man, I'd love to just do what this guy does and not worry about all of the debt I've accrued. I've been watching his vids and just saw the piece about him freeing himself from debt. Some of ya'll might complain about his sponsorship or whatever but that 52 weeks to self reliance may be what I needed. So if you complain about his ad then go elsewhere because his ad just might help people.

I'll sit through your adds, It was a little different to see here though. But in all honesty I have loved your adventure here and if that is what it takes to continue, to build and to work toward your dream all while educating and entertaining your viewers then it is a small price to pay sir. Our love to you and your family. Good work.

Hey bud. Invest in a set of red and green, offset snips. Midwest brand cut very nice. I'm a sheetmetal worker by trade. Then throw them yellow ones in the garbage. Lol those are carpenters snips. Just busting balls. But not bad man. Good video.
