Look at the number of viewers who give you the thumbs up, they must be pro hunting. It amazes me you feel you have to justify yourself, when nothing could be more natural. I was born and raised in London, but spent many weekends with my parents in the countryside. I was introduced to fishing and hunting and farming. Why I was so blown away by the taste and flavour of freshly sourced food compared to shop bought produce, it has influenced my attitude to food ever since. I have long believed that anybody who thinks harvesting animals is evil, but then eat plenty of meat if it's wrapped in plastic and doesn't resemble the animal are missing out in life. If people get offended by what you are doing, ignore them. Can I just add a little story here. I think this was the moment it all hit me, when I was a teenager my family were travelling through France by boat on the canals and my dad saw a flock of wild ducks. He had his rifle on-board and managed to shoot one. He had wounded it and it was flapping around in the water making such a pitiful racket. My dad passed me the boat hook and told me to grab a hold of it. I tried, but the poor duck was flapping for it's life and I was too upset by this. I didn't have the heart to hurt it further. My dad said, oh you take the tiller while I grab it, so I did that while he fished the duck out of the canal, still flapping away. He snapped it's neck and had the feathers plucked off it in less than five minutes. I was watching this and the second the bird was featherless, I was licking my lips and said to my mom. when's dinner? I was so ashamed at how I'd gone from crybaby animal lover to total carnivore that fast, I vowed never to be squeamish about hunting any animal again.

I agree with most of your philosophical positions. I have no ethical opposition to hunting or fishing, same with GMO foods. Monsanto and GMO plants help prevent mass starvation of the human race. Having said that, I try to minimize consumption of red meat because I believe it's less healthy. Millions of years ago, only the primates evolved to the point of no longer producing the Neu5Gc sugar. Humans and their fellow primates once produced the Neu5Gc sugar, but now primates and humans are unique in the animal kingdom in NOT producing Neu5Gc. All the so-called red meats have the most Neu5Gc. Poultry, wild fowl, and fish have the least Neu5Gc. The human body, when it ingests Neu5Gc, recognizes it as an alien substance. This rejection causes inflammation, which promotes cancer. This helps explain why vegans are on average longer livers than red meat eaters. Of course some red-meat eaters are bulletproof and are healthy in spite of the human body's abhorrence to Neu5Gc.
So while I do not strictly reject red meat, I generally try to avoid it. I try to substitute fish and poultry when I do eat meat.
All the above is strictly my opinion and I urge you to do your own due diligence.

Only the saltiest of underachievers are downvoting this. All I see is a guy who is working his fingers to the bone in weather that would make anyone south of the Midwest or Scotland in the UK shut all the schools and roads and get an extra blanket. Shawn, you are incredible. You are a jack of all trades, but your biggest strength is wanting to get this personal paridise ready for a woman. Once you achieve that, you will have your dream of your wife spending most of her days on the land with you (unless you have reached that part (I am watching the videos in order, trying to remember to give you a well deserved ) Great content!

Well said about the hunting debate. Totally agree that we should be allowed to use firearms to hunt our own meat as long as it's lawful during said hunting season. Some folks might be vegetarian and that might work for them, but I tend to be anemic and I must consume meat or I literally feel ill without meat protein. I like venison but wish I had access to moose meat. It is soooooooo tender and lean. My brother shot a moose in Alaska on my aunt's property who was a geologist there. Yummy! :) Nevertheless, hope I get the opportunity to watch you have a successful hunt in a future video!

Ten percent of our income goes to food? Maybe in Canada, maybe if you have a lot of money, but I'm a senior living on a budget in the US, and thirty percent of my income goes to food. A lot of Americans are going to bed hungry these days, thanks to our massive income inequality. As for hunting: if you kill it or catch it in the lake, and you eat it, I'm totally okay with it, though I haven't eaten meat in forty years. Live and let live. It's sport hunting that ticks me off.

My friend builds log homes for others and if the construction goes into winter, he peels the logs in fall, puts them up off the ground, then tarps them over completely. He also worked in the local nickel mines and when on afternoon shift, there was a log going on that current build. every day - regardless of weather. These were BIG logs. He set up a gantry system to lift the logs in place because he worked alone. Hes an artist with a chainsaw. youre an artist without one.

Keep going as you are. You have no reason to justify your actions to anyone when humans kill humans just because they can. You are hunting for food, not for sport or glorification, unlike some of these monied idiots that grace the net every now and then. Thank you for sharing your journey, Im 10 years older than you and would love to do what you do. You really are an inspiration. Good luck and best regards to your family from the UK.

Thank you for your comments towards the end. I appreciate hearing your thoughts on our current social lives and the process we should all take part in, ie: take the steps to know who you are, and what you stand for, and leaving room for others in our lives. What you have had to say, both in this and in others of your videos, always leaves me with much to think on.
Hope the holidays treated you and the family well -
