Building a Greenhouse in the Boreal Forest OFF GRID with My Family, Hailstorm, Arctic Acres

My family starts building a cedar geodesic growing dome greenhouse with help from Arctic Acres at our off grid wilderness homestead. Despite heavy rain and hail, we get the cedar dome erected and start installing the clear panels before the weather turns even worse, stopping us from finishing. Tune in next week as we complete the build and start finishing the interior in preparation for growing season. Eelco: Thats a cool project; not the building style we are used from you but nice to see something different too. I do wonder how the ply sitting on the ground is going to hold up over time though? I suppose when the time comes it wouldn't be too hard to jack up the dome and upgrade that base to some more rustic charred logs though.

Shawn: I've loved watching you create buildings with simple hand tools but I'm equally happy to see you with some power tools and equipment. A good deal of the heavy work you do alone would be tough going for guys. With the help of some carefully chosen tools, the new build should be a good deal easier on your back - along with a few other bits.
Great to see Emily so involved. She looked a wee bit out of her comfort-zone early on but, as the video progressed, she was working as confidently as the rest of you.
I've maybe missed a bit: is the guy with the beard from Arctic Acres, just helping you with the greenhouse build? He looks like a good hand and taking the time to throw Cali's dummy shows he's a good 'un.
If the greenhouse is going up this quickly, the cabin should be up and ready in a couple of weeks, especially if Emily stays on with you.

To some purists, hearing the sounds of power tools and seeing the construction of a 21st century greenhouse might be construed as sacrilegious, but even old order Mennonites know to use modern contrivances like electric milking machines and heaters in their barns while living without modern conveniences in the house. You'll attract more converts to the lifestyle simply by using those appliances only when necessary and prudent. Nice work.

Great teamwork everyone! Not only is Emily and her boyfriend helping but they are also learning new skills as they go. Cali is loving the attention of everyone there as she can chase her toy as many times as it can be thrown. As the green house is being assembled, I am thinking 'temporary home' until such a time plants are grown inside? Have a wonderful weekend everyone from the UK!

OMG this reminds me of mom and dad and us kids helping out on the farm. Many hands make lighter work but kids now days for get the key word and that is work. enjoyed seeing your baby girl and you working together this is one of the most entertaining videos I have seen because your family and her friends are working right along side of dad. Was your wife doing the camera?

Seeing that dome go up, all I could think of was Buckminster Fuller, who invented the geodesic dome many years ago. He would heartily approve of your greenhouse. Some folks have nicknamed this type structure a bucky dome after the inventor. Great video, by the way. I await the next chapter of your adventure.

That greenhouse looks like something i would want to LIVE in: ) That said. im sure it didnt come cheap and i wonder what the thought process was behind having such a quite complex and high value installation instead of simple bow frames with thick translucent tarps?

Shows how tough the calluses on Shawn s hands are for him to grab hot coal covered wood in the fire and move it around! Just not anyone could do that even with leather gloves on. U could probably strike a match on Shawn s callused hands from hard work.
