After 5 weeks on the road exploring Canada and hunting moose, I'm back to the cabin where I finally hook up the interior lights in my cabin, install a wood countertop in my outdoor kitchen and pour a concrete pad for a future project - wood fired grill, pizza oven and smoker.

I wonder what kind of struggles and challenges there still are living out there like that after you've come this far and gotten your Cabin Built. Besides needing to care for a garden and hunt. There's got to be ways that you order things and get them shipped somewhere to pick them up or you have to go on a 2 hour drive to the grocery store or something sometimes. Then you have your water issues but really you could stock up on a bunch of bottled waters and keep them downstairs in the basement too. Is it a bother to use the bathroom for defecating out there? Seems like it would be to me. More of a pain than a normal toilet. I never used a composting toilet. Oh yeah I have been in a Portapotty and if it's like those I guess it's not much of a problem. They keep making better Solar Panels. The newer ones can also work at night time. I would still get bored out of my mind if I didn't have the internet and video games to play. But I guess you have to keep training for hunting to keep your skills sharp. After that there's still got to be alot of boredom time. All the peace but boredom. Until you do more projects. Oh yeah you have your drone to play with and check on the wildfires. Maybe it's not so bad after all.

It's great that you can get away with your family, otherwise what is all the hard work about. Everyone needs to take time out from their work or you become burned out. The cabin is looking amazing, and all the furniture you have made is incredible. It never ceases to amaze me whenever you make a tool if you need one instead of going to a shop and buying one. Your ingenuity is really quite mind blowing. Don't worry about the short videos, we enjoy them just the same, and keeps us hungry for the next one.
Cali is so amusing. She always makes me laugh at something, without fail. I bet she is looking forward to the cooler weather as the heat really affects her.

I just love seeing the expressions from Cali's body and face as she brings her toy and you don't throw it. It's really funny. Then, to hear her gallop after you do throw it just makes me smile! What a sweet girl she is! I would just spoil her to pieces.
Your list of projects is large, for sure. Food, heat, shelter for your vehicles seem most important now that you have lighting. Can the outdoor kitchen wait until spring now that you have the concrete poured?
You have my admiration, Shawn. It's so good that you left the rat race! Life is so much more meaningful when we're free to live out what our hearts dictate. Kudos to you!

Well your looking good, got meat for the freezer, im putting up led lights for solar. when gen is off, i tired of using throw lights. recharge them up all the time. long strip of them, nice. i thought they were small, there big as silver dollars, that helps. they pull very low voltage to. like your lights. bought a new tractor, kind of late, but i needed one. 2 cameras, and a bat jump box. to put in truck. lot of work to do, im getting a pole tent truck garage, to put up on my garage cement, to hold 4 wheeler and tractor, its coming by ups. 12x20. big enough. glad your back man, gives me something to watch. be careful man.

Great job I'm always amazed at all the things you have planned out.
Your kitchen is going to be so large and bright. I'm guessing you'll probably want to screen it to keep it secure and bug free. I also wonder if you could put windows with screens or storm windows so you would have a bright sunny place during the winter. another space to expand into for projects or just hanging out. And it would offer some protection from the elements for your beautiful stove and countertops.

congrats on the Moose everything is looking good I feel for you on the tripod and camera though
I swatted a mosquito that was on my new 34 in monitor and the screen turned into many lines and colors anyways it happens what Forest Gump said to everyone but mine was 300 bucks yours 5 000 definitely hurts more than 300 if it makes you feel any better its better the camera than a tree through the roof

Ok Amigo, Been watching you for years and finally (I think) you have actually made a mistake. In one view of the new Kitchen Countertop it is not level with the wall around the periphery of the kitchen. Have I finally got a gotcha or did I not see it correctly?
Very glad you got to take a little vacation time and especially Family time. Thank you for all you do for me and my family watching you!

Send the tripod company an email telling them the story about it being defective and not having good lock nuts holding it together. Send them a link to your video, If they wish to save some bad reviews they may send you a replacement. The company should replace it and maybe even give you some other stuff to make you happy. Having 2. 12 million subs will scare them.

I've been watching your videos for about 5 years now. I love learning how things are done and why. I may not do most of the things you do but I definitely have a better understanding of it and more encouraged to try things mayself. I know you have a lot of projects and I'm excited to follow along with you and Cali ( and family. Enjoy the fall season!

I'm always in awe of how beautiful your cabin is, although it's much more than a cabin at this point. But one of my favorite parts of your videos is watching Cali watch you intently while you work so she'll know exactly where and when to leave her toy, forcing you to throw it in order to keep going. She's such a clever girl!

I am very pleased you had a break with your lovely family and that you also did your hunting which is also very important for food supply. You have done so much in your build this year and I am glad you are looking a more relaxed that you have had a holiday. Look forward to your next projects, take care.

I really love this outdoor kitchen! I could enjoy one on my terrace. One question, humidity and snow. I may sound a begginer here, but how is it possible to protect the stove and all the wooden furniture from becoming wet and freez down? Do You have a method to make the kitchen suitable for winter?

Busy, Busy it is. Same here as the time is shortening.
One thing I did this year which saved time, was weed fabric over the garden. It was some up-front work but with 99% fewer weeds to pull it has been great. Getting to the point where I need smarter, not harder and that was the MVP of the year.

I've had a lot of luck with gitzo carbon fiber tripods - nice and light. You can get some that have a latching mechanism that keeps the legs from being able to collapse when you don't want them to. One of my tripods supports a very expensive piece of kit, so having it tip over would be catastrophic.

Your wealth of knowledge and hands on skills just amaze me. organization is the key, you have taught us well. Beautful handiwork with each project feature that you undertake. Sleeping in the loft, just the thought. no honey bears don't climb ladders. or do they. Great video. Just long enough

Hope you're feeling great after a bit of a break from cabin related work. It's remarkable how the concept of off grid has evolved so much in last 20 years with the development of water filters, solar and battery storage, and gridless communication (internet) has opened up so many opportunities.

By the way, I forgot to mention that I think you are an amazing woodworker. Your construction techniques are very creative and inventive. Your first cabin was good, your second cabin is excellent. Keep up the good work and all the best to you and your family. We love Callie.

Finally finding the time to get back into catching up on the videos. I've not been able to, since November. It has been a rollercoaster! So glad to see you have been your usual productive self, Shawn. Everything looks beautiful, your hard work is definitely paying off. UK
