but rather scratches the surface of my capabilities. I am self-trained. I have spent most of my life building up a set of woodsman skills. Growing up in Northern Ontario, we spent most of our time just being outside. I was motivated from someplace that I can not reach. It's just in my DNA as near as I can tell I belong in the bush. I am extremely pragmatic, calculating, determined, conscious, and analytical. I tend to understand how things work and if they don't work then I try to solve them as any puzzle. The more difficult the puzzle, the more intrigued and motivated that I am to overcome. I am introverted, self-aware, and more comfortable being by myself than in large busy urban areas. I enjoy looking smartly at new problems and ways of solving them

so you're going to waste one of your 10 picks on a sleeping pad? Bring a hammock, can become netting later. I can make a portable raised bed in half a day. Guys do it all wrong. What you want is some 1--1. 5- OD saplings. you need about 50 ft of it, but only 4 of the poles need to be 7 ft long. Some only need to be 1. 5 ft long. It will weigh 10-20 lbs, depending upon the size, density and dryness of the wood. The connections should be notched so that it's solid without needing much cordage. It's easily taken down and moved. You are not allowed to move more than about 2. 5 miles, max, cause you're stuck in a 5 sq mile area. You're not allowed to take tinder on the show. What you want to do, while still at home, is use coatings of iodine to heavily-rust the ferrule and the outside of your Cold Steel shovel. After you launch, you use the duct tape and a chunk of tarp to make a little bag and scrape off the precious rust into that bag. Rust is a HUIGE help in making friction fire with Rudiger roll technique, using a strip of your bandanna. Once you have the first fire, you can keep its coals bedded in the ashe/dirt. You should not have to start more than half a dozen fires in 3 months on the show. Zach only started 3. :-) Make a little, portable debris shelter for the bedded fire, to keep rain off of it. Once you have the first fire, there's no reason to not have ashed tinder and charred punkwood. When you have those items, it's easy to make fire with any hard rock and any carbon steel tool. A couple of hours suffices to make a BIG pump drill, which always gives you an easy friction fire. You can start your first fire with the batteries for the camera, the night light for the camera, the satellite phone, the head lamp. Do so by chaining togethe the big fishhooks, wrapped in duct tape, with a pile of shredded duct tape ready where you will touch together the hooks. They will glow red hot in a couple of seconds, easily igniting the tape pile. Some tubes of duct tape, wrapped around shavings, easily transfer the fire to feathersticks. You can also fire your flare down into a hole, stuffed with dry debris. That's going to start your fire. so the ferrorod is a wasted pick

A 3 lb fish is just 1000 calories and you need to catch 6000 calories per day. You'll eat half and you need to store half, cause the river is going to freeze solid. Hook and line fishing, in cold weather, never produces anything like that sort of average. In fact, 1000 calories is about it, per day, and you're tied up all damned day. Even with ice, you CAN net fish, IF you know to take the Cold Steel shovel, make a 4 ft long handle for it (takes half a day) and chop down VERTICALLY thru the ice. You have to -sew- the net up and down a line of holes, not far apart, and it's a real pita to get set up and you have to make the net first. A 3 lb duck has 2000 calories and half of it is from fat, which you need really badly in cold weather. The fish has almost no fat. The duck has useful down feathers, and you can catch them by the dozen in some net weirs. 3- mesh netting will hold ducks. You need 1. 5' mesh netting for fish. So it takes you twice as long to make netting for fish. Once things freeze over hard, you're better off to just hole up in a debris-stuffed 4x4x8 ft dugout, eating your dried fish/meat cold, and not bothering with a fire. You wont have to be there very long, 2 weeks at most, cause the dummies will be trying to heat above ground shelters with fire, and collecting and processing the wood is going to burn them out. they are too damned dumb to use the Siberian fire lay, which lets you burn as big a log as you can drag to the site of the fire.

you dont want a big shelter and you dont want a fire inside of it, either. Instead, heat big rocks and bring them inside of a small shelter, putting them under your raised wooden bed. open the door flap, and have the one way projected heat of a Siberian fire lay. You want just 100 sq ft of fabric in your sleeping shelter, and the 10x10 camera tarp as a work awning over the Siberian fire lay. Have about 5 ft of space between the start of the awing and the door flap to your sleeping shelter. You want the sleeping shelter to be a triangle in x section, 6ft wide at the bottom, 6 ft tall at the head end, 8 ft long, tapering down to 3x3 ft at the foot end. Just enough space for your raised wooden bed, your gear, your sleeping stuff, your preserved food and your body. When the weather forces you to hole up, just have a 4x4x 8 dugout, stuffed full of debris. Crawl in and lay there, with your rainsuit as your water-supply. it wont freeze, due to the foot-thick, compressed layer of dry debris. The mouse-drowning basket-bucket is your waste container. Cover the wastes with loose dirt. Dump the container once a week, when you emerge to melt ice-boil water. Let the fools try to heat a debris hut with a fire, wasting all of their calories.

If you wont be on a sea shore, one of your picks has to be the 3 lb block of sea-salt. It's an excellent bait, brine dipping helps preserve meat and fish in warm weather, it'll help you choke down 5 lbs + of bland food every day, and you need the electrolytes that are in it. You have to also take the saw edged Shovel, one of Chief Aj's slingbows, a modified Crunch multitooll, the fishing kit, (as 25 of the biggest hooks allowed, so you can make 2 out of each one, the snare wire (dyed camo stainless steel, 20 ga wire, 1050 ft of it. Take a 55 yd roll of 2- wide duct tape, or a 100 yd roll of 1. 5- tape, whichever you can find. Take the 5 qt skillet and if they wont allow a lid, make one, early on, out of green vines and clay. Take the 12x12 tarp and a 2 person hammock, so you can make 1000 sq ft of 3- mesh netting out of them. If you know what to do, you dont need to process nearly as much wood as you think. After 6-8 weeks, you wont be able to forage more food than you're burning to get that food. So you're ahead to just hole up, in a debris stuffed dugout shelter, no need of a fire. Just lay there and conserve calories, while the dummies try to heat a -shelter- with fire wood.

jordan spent 3 weeks building a brush wall to force the meese to pass within bow shot of his tree blind. He is a really great field archer, too. BUT, it's mere luck if you have such a big animal on your little pissant 5 sq mile area. you can't shoot or trap what aint there. Also, if the critters decide to not be out and about during daylight, you've got a real problem. Some cable snares, made out of 6 strands of the camo-dyed stainless steel 20 ga snare wire, can hook a big animal to a drag log and you can have several such snare working for you 2-4-7. FIRST, however, you have to make the first net weirs out of the tarp strips, one for fish, one for fowl, and in between the sessions of making cordage and netting, you have to be forcing the critters into a narrow spot, if you can't find such a natural pinch-point on your alloted hunk of land. Bait them with salted, shreded cambium and put up brush obstructions. It can be weeks before you score the big critter and the fowl are going to migrate. The fish will soon move to deep water, too, where you might have great danger and work to harvest them.

twist 6 strands of the stainelss steel 20 ga wire into a cable, and it's quite capable of holding a 300 lb bear snared by the paw to a 200 lb drag log. Follow the obvious trail, sneak up within 10m, put an arrow thru his chest with the slingbow, and run like hell. Or drop the slingbow and pull the Shovel out of your belt. It's futile messing around in cold like that. Everything has to be done before it gets that cold, and then you just hole up, eating cold, dried food. The rainsuit becomes your water cointainer. It will hold a week's worth. Before the ground freezes, dig a 1 ft deep, 2x2 ft pit. Line it with a tarp, line the tarp with gravel, so you can use hot stones to melt and then boil ice or snow. Do it once a week, have a hot meal/drink and crawl back into your dugout.

Mr. Wooded Beardsman I dont think you need to go on a tv show, however I can understand the reasons why youd want to be in the Alone series. Should you happen to get onto the series I hope you win, you are after all very deserving of the win in my opinion. If I had to make a tv series like alone I'd have to ask the following people to compete Wooded Beardsman, One Wildcrafter, Bob Hansler, Makery and Mischeif, Ta Outdoors, Les Stroud, Bear Grylis. I have my own opinions on who would be the top 3 people lol. however with no safety guards in place and no telling others they have to do something or setting someone else tasks that would eliminate 2 of those competitors very quickly. Anyway I love all your content and down to earth canadian greatness keep doing what your doing

if you got the right stuff, which is netting, geese and ducks are THE food source in the late fall. You have to know, tho, to dry pluck them, boil the carcass, drink the broth and eat the skin. The fat and most of the calories are in the skin. Because they are flocking up and fattening up for their migration, they are relatively easy to catch by the dozen, with a baited, decoyed net weir. 400 sq ft of 3- mesh monofilament netting makes a weir for them, and it weighs half a lb, and can be stuffed into a 1 gallon can. if you want to know what works well for foraging, get a copy of your fish and game regulations and check out what's illegal to use or do. It's illegal cause it WORKS, (really well)

better practice with JUST the 10 items you'd take on the show. You can't take a rod and reel, or lures. You are only allowed 25 hooks and you lost them fast around snags, in the water. They didn't like my idea of taking most of your arrows as 4-tined fishing heads, and make 2-3 hooks per tine. So now they specify what arrowheads you can take and fishing heads are not allowed. They shot down my idea of the 2 gallon metal bear canister, too. :-) If you -think- that they will EVER let this show last 4 months, you're nuts. they will probablly never let it last 90 days. They'll find some chickencrap -reason- to end it before then

this is all kid stuff, Any 12 year old boy should be able to do it. The issue is how to catch 200, 000 calories in 6 weeks or less? Might need 300, 000 calories in 2 months. That is going to require net wiers catching 50 ducks, and 300 lbs of fish, and might also require the snaring of of a fat 200 lb hog or bear, or 3 hundred lb deer. Only half of an animal's live weight is edible flesh. Deer have almost no fat, so they offer only 700 calories per lb, ready to eat. A 100 lb deer is just 35, 000 calories, which is only enough food, really, for 10 days at most, if that's all you have to eat.
