This day begins with a battle for breakfast. We get into some perch and a few brookies to supplement the calories we burned to track them down. At the end of the fish I go over the most productive way to get fish - naked worms and spinners. I also discuss what's holding the lake back - the spiny fish. Jayson demonstrates how to cook fish primitively with nothing more than a stick (skewer. Then Jeremy puts together a figure four dead fall trap just for fun and demonstration. We also get into moose or winter ticks which evolves into a full body search. Next we make an age estimate on the brook trout using the rings on the otoliths so we can judge the productivity of the lake. On the next episode we do more exploring by heading into the next section of the creek system. stay tuned. Sub to

Perch are delicious even though invasive. I wish they'd invade my chest freezer! I'd go just to put the hammer down on perch and limit out everyday and be perfectly happy taking home smoked perch jerky in mass. .if you can't use little guys for bait or eating you can always put them in the ground near a palatable wild edible and fertilize the ground with them to help -good- plants take a foot hold in case you decide to go back.

When he says it doesn-t matter what kind of tree it is when he-s shaving off the bark with his knife and is gonna use it to cook the fish. It actually does matter cuz you definitely don-t wanna be using an Ohio Buckeye tree branch. Lol preferably you wanna use an oak, hickory or maple tree branch just sayin. Common sense for most!

Got a tip for you boys. Roast your trout using a splake. Put the main stick thru like you did and put 3 smaller sticks across tell other way. It butterflies the fish and it cooks much quicker and much more evenly. Trust this old Canadian woodsman from way back, eh?

the perch in the rideau river and rideauu canal are the most common, then rockbass and sunfish the odd crappie, but on the hog'sback side the ridea river all the perch disappear and its mostly bass and pickerol/walleye. pike and musky are in there but less common.

I found that fish aging info incredibly interesting. in the way where when it ended I was left wanting more and wished for more content on it. Good info. I REALLY enjoy watching videos of guys that know their shit instead of guys filming their horse shit.

Hello from Kaladar. Bon Echo region here in Ontario. Love your videos. Love the thought commentary. Love that you respect what we have. I have sadly been forced more south. Keep exploring. Keep up the great work.

Minnows travel no matter what kind of fish it is they get in there and if left to grow that happens. It happens but things change trout will be at the top again just maybe not in our life time but you never know.

I wonder what results you could've gotten if you used small meat chunks like from a rabbit or bear or something, In my personal experience using KFC popcorn chicken got me a decent size catfish

Since it-s not a survival challenge how about some episodes of fish getting filleted and crumbed and fried. Not gonna lie I watch a lot of these videos for the catch/cooking and eating parts; )
