I will show you how to make maggots at home using only very simple tools like a bucket, drill and some rotting meat. Mark's Channel: I wasn't sure if our trophy hatchery rainbow trout pond fish from Lyndon would love maggots or not, but the results are surprising! Maggot Life Cycle The life cycle of a fly begins when a female lays an egg on a food medium like rotting meat. A female fly can lay up to 150 eggs at a time. Over a period of a few days, the female can make 5-6 batches of eggs. Eggs are deposited in compost, manure and other decomposing organic material. Eggs resemble very small grains of rice. After 23 hours, the eggs hatch into the first larvae stage known as a maggot. These are legless white insects. They are basically worms with a mouth piece. All they do is crawl around eating voraciously. During the maggot stage, they will molt several times, once at 27 hours and 22 hours, and finally into a pupae at 130 hours. After feeding, the maggot will find a place to pupate or cocoon into a brown hard shell. This protects the inactive fly. Over the course of three to six days (143 hours, the pupae develop legs and wings, ultimately emerging as full-grown house flies. Within two to three days, female house flies are capable of completing the life cycle and depositing eggs or mating with a female. POND

Brother I pound a sturdy stick pole board into the water with a open eye hook and I hang dead fish or road kill on the hook and let nature take its course! One I-m feeding fish two I-m attracting fish in my area! And if you can attract the bait fish the predators will follow their food chain! And trust me that in Minnesota this attracts and holds giant crappie and blue gills! So next time your out fishing and see a pole or board sticking outta the water stop and fish the area!

on a small scale I used to keep tenebrio molitor (darkling beetle/mealworm. I would keep them when I had chickens or aquariums. the critters love them as they are full of fat and protein.
it looks like the scale that you are working with is much larger, however It may be something that would work for you.
bro, the image of them squirrelling around in that bag was revolting if not traumatizing. congratulations on your success

A good substitute is making one with just kitchen scraps such as rotting vegetables or fruit, it will attract Black Soldier Flies if they are in your area, the larvae are good sized and will eat a lot and it will smell a ton better lol

Be careful, those aren-t maggots, they are Liberals looking for a free lunch. Hurry up and feed the fish, you-ve got a long way to go.
