I use a custom built Amish made fish spear to take rainbow trout from the pond. See the full Survival Fishing Playlist:
In order to spear fish through the ice you need to make a big ice hole using an ice saw. The idea then is to cover the hole with something that keeps it super dark. Historically, primitive people would have covered themselves with a hide or blanket of some sort to block the sunlight from penetrating the water giving up the fisherman's silhouette.
Rather than use a dark hut, or fishing hut, I use my snowtreker and cover it with a black tarp. It sort of works, but not as good as I hoped.
I spend 2 days trying to get a fish before I head over to Lyndon Trout Pond and Lyndon Trout Hatcheries to really give it a try. Lyndon Trout Pond
Andrew: Just like the eel spears fishermen in the UK fens area. No putting the fish back! But a lovely full tum tum at the end of the day - Date: 2021-05-17
