My father-in-law lives in Minnesota and goes grouse hunting sometimes.

You guys should look for a fiberglass rod with a -safety- flag (similar to a bicycle flag) to stick in the edge of water where you enter the lake. Even at dusk with a flashlight you can easily find your entry point.
