I've never fished with sand fleas before I'm very new to saltwater fishing. I would like to ask kind of a silly question but since they are titled as fleas, do they actually bite you if you hold them in your hand?

If u really wanted to catch them just for fun (not use them as bait) u don't need a rake. You can just use your hands. I always caught them with my mom since I was a little girl just for fun: )

I call these demon crabs. If you let your feet sink into the sand too long, you feel a ton of little pricks. these guys. Ugh.
