we go fishing for monster pacific grouper at Casa Vieja Lodge in Guatemala. The day started with Josh and Franz catching bait. Franz uses a triple hook chicken rig with multiple bait species on the hooks. Once we got to the spot, I was immediately hooked up to the first grouper of the day!
Every species of grouper that we caught had a Spanish name; we didn't know what the English equivalent name was. After catching several smaller groupers, I finally hooked a giant grouper that was pulling serious drag! After an intense fight, I landed the monster grouper. It weighed over 35lbs! Before heading back to the dock, we managed to catch a large bull dorado (mahi-mahi or dolphin fish. We brought the groupers back to the kitchen at Casa Vieja and cooked them with the head chef, Sebastien Castillo.
