A suggestion from someone better than me (and I've been using the fly rod for 52 years. geez, I'm old! ): Try keeping your left foot farther forward when you cast; it'll do a few things. It'll make you rotate slightly at the waist on your backcast. On longer backcasts it'll allow you to extend your casting arm behind you more safely. You'll be able to see your backcast straighten out (a big plus if there's anything behind you. On your forward cast as you untwist at the waist, you'll get more power out of it. Of course, you posted this video a while back and are probably outcasting me by now anyways
Enjoying your videos very much.
Tightest of lines to you and the D. O. Crew, Ms. 'Cizzle!

Im really surprised he didnt explain the double haul he was doing to you. You can see him tugging the line with his left hand on the back cast and forward cast, but he didnt explain thats how hes getting the rod to load, and in turn, his distance. Its like pulling back on a rubber band and letting it go. Hes creating stored energy in the line as it stretches by pulling/tugging on it during both back and forward casts. This is flycasting 101 and he should have explained that. Keep up your practice and maybe go to a qualified casting instructor - with some basic lessons, you can be casting like a champ within a few hours of lessons. Good luck!

Your casting the weight of the line with momentum, its not like casting a spin rod were your casting the weight of the lure once you get your momentum and you learn how to pitch the line the next thing to learn is accuracy, you can work on that by putting a hula hoop about 50-60 feet away and practice getting the fly in the hoop, next work on your retrieve to give the fly it life like action, site fishing and putting a fly in just the right spot and watch him hit, then its game on! Good luck and have fun! Tight lines!

Came here for the fly fishing but got distracted. May need to find one with a dude learning so I can focus on the lesson and watch Darcy on the adventure videos. I really thought I could concentrate on the lesson but noooo. Keep up the good work and great videos I know it is a lot of work and thanks. When it is cold as crap in NC it is nice to be in the boat ( vicariously) through you and utube. Thanks again

Again, another guide not teaching you how to double haul and getting frustrated. Pull the line down with your line hand on both forward and back stroke while bending the rod as close to the grip as possible. Like hammering a nail in a wall. Pull down the line really hard with your forward stroke while push bending the rod and let the line shoot. Hope this helps.

Your wrist action has improved tremendously since I last commented. Great job! I know how frustrating a simple cast can be. I may create the best fishing habitat on the planet, but most all of us are still learning to cast that ## furry lil bug! !

Geez compared to my 5/6 wt. fly rod I use he sure does got to whip that thing like he's whipping a horse. I sure am jealous of the fishing in Florida nothing compared to the fishing here in Kansas.

Brave girl learning something new while being taped. When I was trying to figure out casting a fly rod I found the most secluded spot I could find. Thank goodness there were no cameras around.

Really great video. Thanks. I tend to use the waters resistance to let out the line. I need to start manually striping the line more.
