I think it's awesome you can save the crab while still harvesting a claw. My question is if it is a right/left handed crab, once you remove the crusher claw, does it change to the opposite? Since the remaining claw is the only one they have until the one removed rejuvenates?

The occurrence of regenerated claws in fishery harvests is low, with studies on stone crabs calculating from less than 10% (Davis et al, 1978) to 13% (Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, 2011) mortality rates for single declawed crabs is 40 percent.

Take both claws they will try to fight other crabs and will get killed because they assume they can still defend themselves if you take both the will hide and be more likely to survive that's why both claws are now allowed to be harvested

Good job on keeping only one claw, I appreciate that. I believe its an old law that you harvest one claw one season then the next the other season. Thats still how I catch to this day

If you only take one claw the crab still thinks it can fight so it fights and usually loses and dies. If you take both claws the crab knows its defenseless and hides until its claws grow back.

FWC put out that taking 1 claw is more detrimental to the population than taking both. do your research and you will see that taking both is better for the population.
