H John. I am retired at 71 and have a small (30ft) sailing yacht based in Weymouth. Your videos have inspired me to start fishing from the yacht - especially because you use lures and I won't have to mess around with smelly organic bait. It's not ideal, because there's quite a high freeboard plus guard rails, but should be possible.
I was given a small Abu Garcia boat rod (two of them actually, but I'm confused by all the talk of leaders, line weight, different reels, different lures, and so on. I want to try using slow jigs because you catch some great fish on them and I love eating fish - I can keep lures on board without decomposing bait - but I need to buy the reel, the line, leader, and whatever.
You also mention state of tide, but I have no idea why some tide states may be better than others. Can I just drift somewhere nice, or does it have to be a wreck or a special place?
And you keep looking at something - is it a fishfinder or your chartplotter?
I've been looking through your videos but can't find a really basic tutorial on the kit I need and how to set it up? Can you help, please?

Here's a question for you. Do a fair bit of fishing off my boat - not an expert by any means, typically targeting cod, pollock over rocky ground with lures spinners etc.
I've hooked several, what I'm sure are, massive pollock, but they always seem to either come off the hook or get themselves caught on the seabed.
I see people saying let them run with the line, then others saying you mustn't let them do that!
What would you suggest?

Hiya John, you must know Redcar scars, I know there are bass around there, I've only been out on my yak once in that area, not for bass but out past the scars for cod, I fancy a bit of bass fishing this summer, would I go at low water and paddle about the bottom end of the scarrs? I've no idea really, any advice would be appreciated, I'm getting on now so I can't learn from my mistakes, I have to learn from others, life's too short now to make all the mistakes myself -

John, you are a pleasure and an inspiration to watch. The days are all -stunning- or -cracker-, the mornings are -awesome- and -lovely- and the fish are - an absolute beauty- and -amazing-. We both know that real life is not all bright and shiny, but at least in your videos, for a short time, all is -a cracker- moment. Plus I am learning about fishing in the ocean off of Cornwall. Thanks again for an interesting and entertaining video. Have you done or can you do a video on finding wrecks / reefs and what they look like on the fishfinder? Appreciate you can't give specific wreck details you go to but I often go to marked wrecks / reefs but can not find it so would appreciate any help on finding good wrecks / reefs. Maybe the ones around here off Exmouth are too small to find and I need to go further out.

Before I started following you, I never would have guessed how vibrant the wildlife is in your area, particularly underwater. I like your explanation about how circle hooks work, too. Almost wish to have the fish headed away from you when that line tightens and pulls the point into the corner of the mouth. As you would say, another cracking video (too bad crack means something else in America-.

If i understanded it properly, you are using soft plastic lure for that sea bass and you are letting yourself to drift in the current.
Is the current drift enough to give the action to the artificial lure?
It never came to my mind to try that, how do you lift it up from the bottom so the lure can start working in the drift, i dont see any bobber in front of the lure.

at 58: 05 when you say -See them teeth in there-. the swim bladder is not fatally blown as shown in the previously caught Ling.
Sincere question. can a Ling (or similar) survive being surfaced if by chance their swim bladder has not blown. or is it case of the damage may be done internally whether or not the bladder is protruding into the throat?

Brilliant video and a pleasure to see someone who really knows what they're doing. Where was this taken? One little piece of advice - wear sunglasses. I've spent many years next to the water in the sun and now have to have cataract ops. They're caused by UV damage and believe me, they're no fun. Thanks again for the brilliant video.

Are the wrecks you are fishing long like oil tankers and inline with the tide direction. I struggle to get a minute over our wrecks or is it ur very patient and go over many many times. This year im going to try engine on tickover in gear against tide and see if i can sort it out lol
