Nice fish. Tell you a secret from an old fisherman. The bigger the bait the bigger the fish. That first fish you caught with the bite marks on the side could be the perfect bait for a big ling. Big lings only go for big baits. You even noticed the bite mark on that second 9 pounder you caught. Those could be from a 60 to 75 pound ling cod. That big ling was eating the fish both times when you jerked them out of the lings mouth. That was the bite marks on both fish. Better luck next time, so you learn. Go for that monster ling and use a much heavier pole and reel with 60 pound braid or more, and don't touch the spool to slow down the run. Also use 5 pounds of lead sinker with a 5 to 10 pound bait. Also slow down your drifting with a sea anchor when windy, or spend some money for 300 ft. of anchor line with a sand anchor. Now go catch a big, a really big ling cod. Where there are small lings there are big ones. Tired of winding that much weight from the deep, electric reels are the answer. Blessings.

Watched a few of your vids a while back and have come back as I well enjoy seeing some of the cracking fish you hook into. Cracking Coalie. always nice to see a PB. makes it all worth it. I fish conger on small reefs around Plymouth Sound and my best is 75lb taken on a good size whiting (At night has always produced the best size for me. Anchored in only 40ft of water. Don't you just love the monster eels. Nice Pollock as well. 19 doggies on the slack tide (stuffing themselves silly, Always good when the tide starts to move and they leave your flapper baits alone. Hi John you will think what a late reaction but due to the lockdown here I am watching your videos and also previously made videos what I saw in this video that you use a 5kg anchor and that in this video you had to anchor again 5 or 6 times because you do not hold anchor at that moment ask about this is it not better to use a heavier anchor or not holding the anchor not with the weight of it please make your explanation about it grt Willem and stay safe

Have you thought about getting a deep water release? Handy to have if you want to keep fishing without killing any more fish. You can make one with scrap steel rods or large j hook upside down with the barb crushed and a lead tied to the eye of the hook. Let the weight take it down to the bottom then strike to free the fish where its decompress. Legally have to have them on all sea fishing boats in alaska

Excellent video considering I don-t even fish --- I am intrigued by the whole subject but I wouldn-t know where to start you obviously know what you-re doing Even need to write a book take out complete novices on your boat or beach fishing whatever and I-d be the first one there but I-d love to try it well done

what are coalfish like to eat? in fact how about a a catch and cook on all UK species, some of us will never get to taste these fish like bream, pouting whiting and would love to know how good they are for the table,

One of the best parts of fishing for me is catching the unexpected. You never know what's on the end of your line in a lot of situations until it hits the boat.
