You were missing fish because no one in your group knows how to use tipups and couldnt tell you how to do it correctly. let the fish run with the bait. Wait for the fish to stop running. Let him run again. Let it stop again. When its stopped for the second time, remove the tipup with one hand while holding the line thats in the water still in place. Toss tipup to the side keeping the line still in the water (dont pull yet. Gently but briskly, start to retrieve line. When you feel slight resistance, YANK Pull that mother in When tipup fishing pike, they will first just grab the bait and swim away with it. When they stop the first time, they are repositioning the bait in their mouth to eat it head first. On the second run, they usually have the bait situated properly (you could probably set the hook now) and are then going off to enjoy the minnow. When it stops the second time, set the hook. Tell your friends. I give guys like you shit because youre more concerned about YouTube views than actually fishing but I couldnt help but share some info because you looked like you were sincerely asking for tips.

I have really been getting in to ice fishing these last couple years (well when their has been ice with these crazy winter's) I have yet to try a tip up I want to though. It wouldn't surprise me if the vibration and nosie from you guys running to the hole spooked a few off and that is probably what happened on some of them. With that being said some days are just like that it happens like you said. Just the other week I was out on the ice wasn't getting much so I figured I would try these crappie jigs I make with a new glow in the dark paint I got. I stared getting bites like crazy but every time I would get them almost to the hole they would get off lol.

Hey Im a young kid learning to fish and you teach me SO MUCH. Clearly, I see you are not the best at ice fishing but thats alright. Im good at ice fishing but for some reason Im not that good at fishing in the spring/summer/fall season. And I LOVE all your bass videos because I never knew about bass in my neighborhood pond until 3 weeks ago I caught one. I was excited because I have bass gear and I just wanna say thanks for teaching me so much and maybe Ill do better at summer fishing and maybe youll be better at ice fishing.

Bass are not usually real aggressive in the winter, if you were catching northern pike that type of hooksetting might work but bass won't engulf a minnow as fast as pike will, and if that wasn't the problem id guess your bait was just a little to big maybe try using some smaller minnows not trying to troll you but we all have our bad days, but dam you lost a lot of fish maybe stinger hooks if your allowed to use them but probably not if your gonne be releasing them I'm just giving a few suggestions goodluck

I would agree that running up to your set is not a good idea. Don't run but don't lolly-gag either. Lift your tip-up out of the water and gently unspool a couple of feet of line. When the fish puts tension on the line give the line a stern tug - but DON'T RIP HIS LIPS OFF Experience will tell you how hard to set the hook based on what kind of line you have and how much line is out. Don't allow any slack with a steady pressure back to the hole. Try this and I believe your percenteges will go up. GOOD FISHING

With a minnow the fish swims out with the minnow then eats it and with a minnow that big you need to let it swalow the minnow. I fish with tip ups daily and I ussually wait for the second run with the minnow to set the hook. Unless the fish has almost ran with all of my line then i set the hook so I don't loose my entire set up. Hope that helps cause never ice fishing again isn't worth it.

Youre setting the hook to hard. Just a slight pull, not very hard because youll rip the bait right out of its mouth. Watch my pike video. Barely set the hook on a tip up line. When youre setting a hook it doesnt have any spring like a fishing rod so all that force is pulling the bait out. Be slow and patient with the fish, dont run just walk over calmly in excitement

Please review your video notice the sounds you making while running to your tip-up from your go-pro and pay close attention to when you realized that your tip-up was tipped over notice the different around 5. 37, throw in a tremble hook and if you are worried about a tail bite just add a small stinger tremble on the larger presentation and you are doing a good job

Walk to the holes the fish feel the vibrations and drop the bait also use treble hooks for better hook ups and don't yank the line so quickly let the fish start to run then set the hook so you get the corner of the mouth. If the fish does drop it before pulling it in try twitching it a bit sometimes the fish will come back and strike again.

Buy a Spud and use it to thump ur way out onto the ice learn the sounds of the thud from the spud. If in doubt don't go out listen to ur gut. Also buy a set of hand pics so if you do go through it will help u get out of the lake. I have been I've fishing for almost 20 yrs and have never fell in from unsafe ice.
