Most anglers consider the alligator gar a nuisance fish but being an angler that fishes the Chemung river cruise n Elmira NY that don't have alligator gar in it. Seeing how they fight I can say they are not a nuisance fish they are a great sport fish for catch and release. Fellow angler Robert Gildea

I live near the Trinity River down here in Liberty county Texas. We have them Alligator Gar just like that here And catfish almost that big. Also sweet bass holes. But those ain't on the river and I ain't saying on here where they are. Anytime you want to fish down here hit me up.

You gotta have either balls of steel or be totally psychotic to get in the water with that big ass monster I had no idea gar could get that big. I thought maybe 50+ pounds for a big one but god DAMN those are huge they could take a leg off without breaking a sweat

What gear do you fish for stuff this big on rivers with? Im English so out angling is different, would a heavy carp rod, 3. 5lb test curve or more do the job? Id assume its a similar terminal set up to big pike fishing just scaled up? Best wishes from Northern UK

I know this video is a few months ago, but I thought you would like to know that a 6'9, 178 pound alligator gar was caught this morning at Lake Texoma in Oklahoma Great videos, btw. I am a 62 year old female angler who loves to fish for gar as well. Tight lines

I saw one north of there in the Cimmeron River with a about 10 long mouth about 4 years ago, and a all brown one about 6'-7' long with teeth sticking out of the sides of it's mouth like sawfish at Grand Lake in Oklahoma. about 25 years ago.

Amazing, and I prefer this way of fishing than netting. You cannot catch the whole school this way, and you also don't have bycatch of species you don't need and will discard or die from a net, like turtles, etc.
