Best Lightweight Spinning Reel for the Money?

This is a review on the 2016 Shimano Stradic Ci4+ spinning reel that was launched at ICAST this year. This fishing reel is designed to be just as lightweight as the old model but features a better balanced and lighter weight rotor, making the handle very easy to turn. The light weight and quality of the gears and body makes it a fishing reel that is going to last for years. This new fishing reel weighs in at 6. 8oz and costs 229. 99. It's designed to be the workhorse of the line being a middle of the road price point but featuring some top of the line technology passed down from the Shimano stella. I use this reel bass fishing with drop shots, shakey heads, and other small finesse fishing lures. It makes the fishing rod seem lighter which is nice for feeling light bites from bass and other fish species. LATEST VIDS TO WATCH Am I Fishing Too Much Babe VLOG Bass Fishing in Frog Fishing Heaven!

This in response to a few earlier googan comments. Yes, 100 - 200 is still middle class. When you go 300-400 upper middle class. 500+, yep thats expensive. Frankly its all expensive if you have more than a few, which we all tend to have.
Having said that mouthful, 200-250 is an expensive reel for 98% of folk. You can trash talk Shimano all you want, but I fished all Shimano for 20 years in Alaska, salt and fresh water. You want to know something, none were this nice, BUT they all still work, well the 500 Sedona is finally at its end of life, getting jerky stiff after 25 years and ready to go to the salt water in the sky. My 4000FL Sahara, on the other hand, beat up and showing its age after 20+ years on an 8ft Medium 2 piece Lamiglass still smooth as silk and that was used for years casting or jigging for rock fish and salmon in the North Pacific and from river banks. Beat up as it looks, still smooth and good as new in use. I also have 2 older than most of you Shimano Bantam Plus 1000 level winds on 8. 5ft 2 piece Shimano Black Magnum Med Hvy rods for trolling, still flawless after 10 years straight in salt. Dont tell me Shimano doesnt have the tech. Are they overpriced, what the hell isnt? If you want cheaper, buy your own facility and tooling, hire a critical overpaid engineer or 50, and make your own, then see how expensive they are. You pay the bucks you can and get what you pay for, but if youre smart, theyll last at least half a lifetime.

If you want something that will last you long and has better quality. Yeah i can see forking out 200 on a reel compared to buying someting in the 50-100 range that you can use for a year or two only to be replaced again.
Of course you need to ask yourself how much you are willing to spend and how much do you fish.
In my experience. I fished with a 25 combo to a 300 fishing setup and if i knew i was going to be this serious with fishing.
I would have spent the 300 setup a long time ago so that i did not waste my money on the other cheap stuff that broke.
But then again using awful gear, then cheap setup and now to quality gear gave me insight to what to look for in a setup.
By the end of the day you also have to know what kind of gear and fishing works for you.

I have two stradics, im not really satisfied. The drag of the 2500 is already failing as it is lagging after 1 year of use. They are really light and that is kinda nice but if you fish like a couple of days a week, it isnt gonna last a decade. I think that the lighter models have less durability. Im going to try some daiwa now. If any1 has some recommendations for a freshwater spinning reel, please let me know.

I bought a new Shimano Stradic Ci4 + 4000 and noticed that it felt stiff to reel in when compared to my older stradics. It was to the point that it bothered me. It felt like it was binding, so I got my old Stradic Fg 4000 reel and put the same large lure on both of them and sure enough it was noticeably harder to reel the lure in on the new Stradic Ci4 + reel. Has anyone else noticed this issue and if so will the reel eventually loosen up so that it does not feel like it is binding?

I was lucky enough to be given this reel by a friend who had upgraded. It had a slight bobble on turning the handle. I took it apart and turns out the tapered slope that triggers the auto bail close had become damaged at the bottom. I used a small chisel to reshape it and rid it of the nasty bit. added a little grease in places. and boy is it one smooth reel now.

Have been fishing the two sizes of this 2500 and 3000 for a year now often and long. Amazing how smooth, light, durable and problem-free this is. It has been the best performing reel for me when I have to reel in a big fish fast to avoid underwater rocks while using braid, thanks to its light weight and strength. Extremely well engineered machine.

I have the 4000 one, strong n pretty but nothing like tough saragosa 6000 sw when reel in mid. Size game fish, the torque is just too good to compare with a reel of stradic dept. bigger main gear means stronger/smoother torque. Who can't afford stradic the sahara is just as goodhalf price or less.

Just bought 3 Select Favorite defender series rods (lunkerstv version of course. I want a great Spinning reel to go with my new rod set up and I already have amazing baitcasters but I dont have much experience with spinning reels. Thank you for this video, it made my decision extremely easy!

Best for the money my ass. I have 3 Garcia Mitchell 309s 2 I have since I was a kid and 1 I got off eBay for 4. made back in the 60's. All 3 have never given me any problems not even when I get hooked up to a big bass or catfish while crappie fishing.
