I'm living out of this Kuiu backpack hunting bag for a whole week in the mountains of New Zealand where we will be mountain hunting. OuterLimits: Army infantryman here with hopefully a couple helpful tips. I would take out the steel and replace is with a lighter and a couple waterproof matches just to save some weight. For your headlamp flip one of the batteries so it won't turn on in your pack, and for the rest of your batteries either keep them closer to your body or in between your insulating layers to keep them warmer so the cold weather won't eat up your batteries. Put all your clothing in some type of wet weather bag and compress everything down to save space. When packing everything up try and keep the heavier stuff towards the top and the lighter stuff towards the bottom to help save your back and keep balance. I would also pack some more medical stuff (even though your guide should have quite a bit) just incase, also I would pack some Advil and I'm a really big fan of the MTN OPS Enduro packets (pack one for each day drink it during your lunch and it gives your muscles a nice boost. For water I would also suggest getting a lightweight water filter like one of the Sawyers or something of that nature. Hope the info helps a little, good luck, stay safe, and I look forward to watching your videos!

I pray that you have a safe flight over to and back from such a beautiful place like New Zealand. She definitely will be quite the adventure. From watching other western style hunters do bag dump videos it looks like you have thought off about everything aside from a water filtration system and a platypus bladder with a drinking tube. Like a few other's have said and you know from being a fishing guide, listen to your guide's advice, but don't be afraid to follow your gut. Oh and definitely hike in wearing lightweight clothing so that you won't get wet/damp and then cold. Even switching out socks when you get to the top. Didn't mention your weapon system, but I understand why because of the absolutely ridiculous YouTube anti 2nd amendment guidelines. I wish you the best of luck on your adventures and can't wait to watch the day by day series of your lifetime dream hunt on the other side of the world.

I cant give any advice on mountain hunting since Ive never been either (bucket list though) but I can give you some encouraging words if you want lol. But I wanna say that you will definitely be pushed past your breaking point physically but never give up and dont quit. My late grandpa always taught me growing up that when life gets hard and knocks you to your knees, you have two options. Either let it continue to keep you down and belittle you or you rise with courage in your heart and God by your side and come up swinging. May God bless you and your family. I pray for safety of you and your guide(s. Rock on LFG! God bless!
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Enless you want trench foot you NEED AT LEAST 1 pair of socks for each day. If there is one thing I learned from the Army is that you can wear the same shirt and pants and even undies if needed but you can not ever pack enough socks, ever! Lol Good luck and have fun on your hunt!

I know its too late, but your pack is about 2, 000 CI too big and your load is 20lbs too heavy. Google me, Ive hunted/filmed in the toughest mountains in the US/Canada. Youre going to regret 50% of the crap you are taking the very first day. Hit me up for some details.

I have a tall backpack frame about that size to which I bungee gym bags and smaller backpacks full of camping gear. I made quilted fabric rod caddy covered with pockets that will strap onto it by its shoulder straps. Yours looks larger than mine.

Well, I have to say, I cringed when you said how much your pack weighed. Looks like you packed good, mostly camera gear weighing you down. I would use coffee bags instead of bringing your own coffee and percolator. Get a smaller stove. Good luck.

Advice brother. Cut weight. Bare essentials. Ounces turn into pounds. Kuiu guys know what they're doing. Call them for advice. They test this gear all the time and video their hunts. Good luck. Be safe. Rep Texas Brother
