Ok.
A few things.
The trees planted around properties are for windbreaks because of the howling nor'wester, one of the winds that in other countries is called a suicide wind (for obvious reasons)
The huts you speak of were originally put in the mountains for hunters and hikers, paid for with tax dollars, now DOC, dept of tourism, sorry conservation use them to grab money from NZers and tourists to fund their whacky ideals.
Your dollars while staying in those huts are now paying for DOC to exterminate all introduced species, ie, deer, himalayan tahr, chamois and wild boar.

Hey LFG, just wanted to tell you why Kiwis dont use dryers very much. When I lived in Dunedin, New Zealand as a missionary, on the South Island, my flat mates explained that its not cost affective and a waste of energy to use a dryer. People do have them, but they said that they preferred to use the wind and sun to dry their clothes. As an American, it took me a while to get used to it. NZ is all about being a green country. I love this series, it makes my heart hurt and feel good all at the same time. So glad you got to go over!

I love the deep Texas drawl in the middle of New Zealand. I'll bet random people you spoke to were curious about your accents. Btw, Texans speak so awesomely, especially when they're passionate about the subject. I'm from South Florida, so accents abound here.

Disliking these videos is impossible for me to understand. Do you hate beauty, good editing, fun interaction, and interesting different content?
