Doing some bank fishing today but the lake is flooded and the shoreline is full of brush with venomous snakes hiding in it. This is too dangerous for me to go fishing in rubber boots

People mistake pretty much every kind of water snake in america for cotton mouths and some copperheads. I've lived in Ohio all my life. I've caught every species of snake that lives in this state. Including the venomous ones. Eastern diamond back, massasauga rattlesnake, and northern copperheads. Those are the only venomous snakes that live in this state. I'm here to tell ya all. They're incredibly rare too. Almost non existent in most areas they live even when ya know where to look. I like that he called that out. I don't blame people for killing a venomous snake. There's never a reason to kill one that isn't. A lot of non venomous types eat the venomous ones. As well as rodents and nasty animals that can actually spread diseases to you because they're mammals unlike reptiles where the disease can only live on them or in them as long as it can live on a surface without a host. Pertaining to the ones we can catch anyways, though there are plenty that effect them, and not us. Anyways. Saying all this because miss identification is a problem all around the world for many species. Be sure you know sure you're killing. Pick up a book. Takes a few min of your life of reading or looking at a few pictures to be able to properly identity them for the rest of your life. Many times people are killing ones that help them. Some of which are endangered and some even almost extinct.

This video made me think of the time I was fishing at a local public park pond and I was using some cut bait and had it in a lil cooler with some beef jerky and water. And A Tiny lil North American Water Snake slithered up into my cooler and took my jerky. NOT my cut bait. And I caught him and he just looked at me and then took off. Then I caught him again trying to take my cut bait!
Im glad people didnt get on here and try to demonized this video. I see North American Water Snakes all the time (Non-Venomous) and they are VERY curious snakes.

I lived outside San Antonio many years ago and we had a huge problem with snakes. It was impossible to walk in the garden at night and several times we ha d to fish them out of the pool in the mornings. In the end we bought a male and female breeding pair of peacocks. They loved the warm weather and thrived on a diet of rattlers and copperheads. Anything that they cant deal with like the pigs they make a huge racket and they would probable see off your bobcat. Keep your wife and family safe.

Growing up fishing/camping in various places in central/southern Missouri, I have many scary memories involving snakes. Which is probably why I dislike them so much. And dream about them sometimes. I remember us kids were walking down the gravel bar at a public campground and watched a 4 ft Cotton Mouth slither right across our path into the water. But Ive also had many encounters with North American Water Snakes. Which are Non-venomous. They commonly are misconceptions with Cotton Mouths.

I'm down in Florida, but fish in alot if areas that look like that area where the cotton mouth was. I don't go anywhere without at least a pistol on my side. Putting it on in the morning is as automatic as my pocket knife or belt. Between the Gators, snakes, hogs, or Bigfoots (not to mention desperate humans). I'm coming home with all my limbs & fingers & toes.

I use a fly rod with a spin reel for trout fishing. Helps me get to spots from the bank. Did you know that almost every snake has a venom? Its just at the back of their mouth. I try to bury the snake head if I can, itd be my luck Id chuck it in the water and somehow fall on it.

For good hog bait put old diesel fuel and corn in a five gallon bucket(the corn should be completely submerged in diesel fuel, stir it up, and let it sit in the sun for a few days. You dont have to use old diesel, but it works better if you do.

Gotta work on your dangerous snake identification. Not all venomous snakes have slit eyes and not all with slit eyes are venomous.
Your state is home to the Texas coral snake. Round eyes, non triangular head and deadly.

They use it to help grind there food, feed half scratch and half the normal food you got and if you wanna keep the varmits out ive got several ideas for that
