TOXIC Truth about this Fish. Catch Clean Cook (Barracuda) The Barracuda is UNFAIRLY associated with CIGUATERA an illness caused by eating fish that contain toxins produced by a marine microalgae called Gambierdiscus toxicus. The thing is that any predator fish from our reefs can have CIGUATERA all the snappers, all the groupers, any of the mackerels family. All it takes for any of those fish to have Ciguatera is to eat a fish that was sick from Ciguatera. To me the thing that makes me keep away from Barracudas is that Cudas stink real bad. You will need to clean with Clorox your fish box to get that stink out everything the Cuda touched even your hands.

I hate these fish, not to do with the meat. I am a spearfisherman, and when I dive reefs, often they stay hidden or hang around some bit away from you. As soon as you turn your back however, they come real close and give you that death stare same that they do to their prey. I’m not scared of sharks. I’ve had it once where a barracuda has followed me for a whole dive, I’ve had to scare it away, thinking I’m safe, only to find 10 minutes later this 1. 5 meter beast with teeth like knives has followed and stalked me back to the boat and is a mere few feet from me. It gave me a jumpscare. I was kinda done for the day.

Thank you for the information about ciguatera poisoning and the fact that around where you fish it is extremely rare. What I've heard that if you put a piece of the barracuda out and the bugs and ants start eating it, that is an indication that the meat does not have the toxins. I loved all the variety of fish that you caught in two days. That hammerhead and the sailfish fight was awesome! We have caught some bigger barracudas in the Bahamas. The locals had no problems cooking and eating it. It was delicious! Amazing video as always.

I think it’s funny what you said about the smell of Cuda when you catch them putting people off. I have eaten them in Mexico and Jamaica. Delicious. You know what absolutely stinks when you catch them and is sought after and expensive world wide King salmon. They absolutely reek. Nothing about them smells good when you catch them, yet look at the price of them. I think it has more to do with what you are told as a child than the smell. You grow up believing a fish is trash then you find excuses to not try them.

From my understanding, the ciguatera originates from a coral, which parrot fish eat. So whatever eats the parrot fish will accumulate the toxin. If the reef has a lot of that corral, the greater chance of ciguatera. The other thing I heard (don't know if it's true, is that if you put a little piece of your suspect fish on an anthill, if the ants eat it, you can eat it, if they don't eat it you shouldnt

Hey! Great video! I was thinkin, why not try making a bait hoop net with some of Brooke's clear plastic she uses for the lobster nets. Im sure the bait hoops are patented but, you could try making one for you to use on your fishing tripsto see if that improves your bait catch when chumming. Keep up the good work.

Constructive criticism and this may be an unpopular opinion. But I’m not a fan on the enhanced edited teeth. I think the actual thumbnail would be gnarly enough. No hate, I’m a fan of your content.
I also commented on IG about the fin deformity on the Mahi. The webbing just didn’t develop.

I’ll be in fort pierce Florida soon and I love fishing and I watch your videos all the time. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on what I should target in the surf. I’ve never been to Flo before and I’ll be surf fishing and fishing the Indian river lagoon as well

best tartar sauce i have ever tasted was at the golden union restaurant on poland street in london (they offer several types of fish for their wonderful fish and chips, it was similar to what you made, but had lots of chopped fresh dill in it, hands down, the dill made it special

We eat Barracuda in the Caribbean all the time, the protein content in that fish is very high. We scale, leave the skin on and fry those bad boys. Just make sure it’s cooked all the way through and you’ll be fine. People sleep on Barracuda all the time.

Idk if it’s from the bacteria, but growing up in the panhandle, people don’t eat it because they eat coral off the reef and it can lead to brain cancer. Someone correct me if I’m wrong please, thanks

Victor where is your birth family Did you disown them Or did they disown you If they did really can't blame them, you hardly ever have them over for a meal Does Brooks family not like them Or vise a versa.

Those red stringy things on the mahi (17: 42) are parasitic copepods, aka anchor worms. I've personally noticed them a lot more recently on some of our northeastern fish species, especially adult menhaden.

It's more the high levels of cadmium and mercury cudas tend to have. Safe to eat but not too often. Same with fresh water fish. Mercury levels tend to be higher in freshwater fish
