Steve, a few issues. SAM/Rebar is not giving the same performance boost on AMD vs Nvidia cards. You can verify this yourself, so it s disingenuous to entirely discount it as something available for both platforms. (Hypothetically, in the future, Nvidia can get it working similarly, but hypothetically AMD will have a DLSS competitor...)
Second, it s worth commenting on driver overhead bottlenecking of weaker CPU performance, as recently highlighted again by Hardware Unboxed. Many of us have older CPUs as it s difficult to upgrade right now, and are running into cpu bottlenecks where a 6700xt will outperform a 3080 because of the cpu bottle neck, or other crazy situations. It s worth mentioning in the review that I d you have an older cpu and you re not planning to upgrade for 1-2 years, then your performance on Radeon may be significantly better in cpu bottlenecked situations.
I m finding this common about now among my friend group where we are upgrading from similar system but getting widely different results.

Here is why I would rather buy the 6700xt over the 3070 in particular its because I m already having issues with the 8gb of ram in my 1080 amp extreme (runs at 2ghz stock) in certain games at 1440p that I play often, in particular cod. I also have better faith that the msrp of the 6700xt is more real in comparison to nvidia as nvidia doesn t sell the reference model for a meaningful amount of time unlike amd who continues to sell all their cards at msrp on their own site. Saying all that i, still planning on waiting the 10-14 months for rdna 3 or the rtx 4000 series because the upgrade even from a 5 year old card is hard to justify including the resale value of my current card.

Funny how RDNA 2 went from being one of the most exciting, anticipated launches to one of the most disappointing launches... Seriously hoping AMD learn their lesson early for being too greedy too soon in my opinion. If people keep justifying these cooperations' actions as a business model, technology and gaming industry will just stagnate. Maybe we need some kind of an industry price moderating body to keep these blood sucking corps in check.

meh means I can continue on using my RX 5600 XT with my RX 570 as a backup dGPU without longing for more. Now I do still have a bit of buyer's remorse about not ponying up the extra 200 for a 2070 Super when I had the chance back in Feb 2020 but that's just how things played out. At least I got myself a 5600X for 280 and a B550 motherboard for another 20 off so I can at least upgrade something.

Maybe having a GPU shortage isn t such a bad thing. If NIVIDIA & AMD get complacent in pricing and production, this will open the door wide for competition to enter. Intel has been making noises of entering, and even ARM processors have a potential. So, I am hoping that in the long run, the monopoly shared by the 2 GPU manufacturers will be broken once and for all. Great video!

G'day Steve,
It seems that your favourite games are going to become even more of an influence on what GPU Brand you should buy in the future,
it is crazy that the performance of a GPU can be performing like the relative price Tier in one game, the Tier below in another & the Tier above in yet another

I don't understand the release of a product that you have to wait for 6-9 months to get it.
I remember I got my 3090 doing I talked loud to a best buy guy , in reality I was joking but the crazy guy come with the card in hands and I'm almost pass out ,I pay and run away from the store.

I have a bad feeling that this GPU situation will last several more years. It would be one thing if TSMC can magically ramp up production to levels seen in previous generations. But now we have additive unmet demand AND miners that will use bots to gobble up all the stock.

GN: You don't need 16 GB, you barely need 12
CoD CW: sweating profusely
My buddy had his 2080Ti run out of memory when we were playing, Don't know if he had RTX enabled but I guess so... Then again, cold war runs like trash anyway and not only on PC.
