cooler is ok, just not on 479 card. About pads on backplate, sure they should use them. But I disagree with Steve here, not on memory. GDDR6 is not too hot anyway and heatsink on other side will be enough. Where I see best use for backplate is taking away heat from back of VRMs, they are failure point no1 and taking away more heat from them will prolong life of card way more than cooling memory for few degrees.
Also, PCB was not point of video but I don't like absence of fuses on board (maybe I miss them?). Professional disorder maybe but they make fixing cards in future so much easier and I hate when manufacturers save on them.

I d actually like to see the testing of contact of the silicon with the cold plate, and see how to improve it, if possible. I would be more angry at how poorly the expensive piece of hardware cools with no ideas of how to improve it. Most of us don t have access to the overclocking labs that Kingpin and Der Bauer have to tweak things and grind silicon down to level.
It s bad enough the cards require you to either be near a MicroCenter and have spare time to wait 3 hours before they open, or rely on scalpers for new cards. The fact the founders/reference cards are so poorly cooled is frustrating to say the least.

14:45 please don't let the immature people who can't understand the value of information because they're too busy just being salty stop you from producing content.
Regardless how you feel about pricing, availability, timing of releases, mining, or anything else, you should be able to appreciate having more knowledge for when you're able to make a purchasing decision. I, personally, would love to be able to make a more informed choice when the opportunity presents itself, so I hope you continue to test as much as you're able to.

So in summary.
The card performs worse than AMD's claims.
It costs more than it's worth.
It's built extremely poorly for it's cost.
This smells like AMD of yesteryear.
Problem is they'll still sell like crazy. There are models here in AU selling for for 1300.
They really should be 350- 380 USD. Around 500AUD.
It is depressing what is happening here.
I'm sure that AMD are making BANK on this card.

If you think it needs testing then it needs testing. By all means please do deeper GPU testing (flatness etc.) if you can.
At this point I feel consumers are being manipulated, ripped off, and disrespected by the GPU manufacturers. We only have a handful of people like yourself out there to hold them accountable.
Thank you for all your testing, your even-handedness and your sense of humour.

Is it just me, or is physical GPU silicon getting bigger these days?
2080Ti/3090 and 6900XT sure, but that 6700XT looks huge to say it's only 40CUs...
From the Vega Gang.
Edit: As a (graphics) card carrying Vega enthusiast, pressure testing would be great.
I've had enough with AMD and poor cooling contact. This time they don't have HBM as an excuse.

my purchase of a 5700xt in april last year just keeps feeling like a better and better decision. So glad to not be caught up in this GPU Armageddon. I hope this is resolved before Christmas of this year, Its putting off new people from entering PC gaming and that's a bad thing for the whole community

Can it be better? Yes. Is that so bad? No. When reviewers have nothing to review sometimes they try to find problems everywhere. Also new reference design with coolers is way better than turbines we had before. So not a big point to complain since not reference design cards will be more expensive.

14:35 not gonna be mad about you doing it, but this video and your review of the card (along with HUB's review), mean I just couldn't give two shits about this card either way. What a boring load of garbage we're being offered in terms of value this generation, both AMD and nvidia can go kick rocks
