I think there is an issue with that EVGA 1000w GQ power supplies in general. I had one and was running the fan on eco mode. The fan never turned on and the power supply got so hot my system shut off and wouldn't turn back on. Inside the case felt like an oven. I contacted EVGA for RMA, sent them my old power supply (minus cables) they sent me a new one. It just made a buzz sound when I would turn the switch on and the system would not boot. I called EVGA and they sent me a new power supply w/ cables and I sent them back the first replacement. After installing the second replacement power supply my system would get power but wouldn't post. I found both the motherboard AND cpu were both fried. EVGA refused to do anything about the motherboard and cpu and told me I'd have to send them to their respective companies (MSI & AMD) and if their RMA department said it was the power supply they (EVGA) would re-imburse me.
I contacted both MSI & AMD, explained what happened, they approved RMA and both confirmed it was a power surge from a faulty power supply. I contacted EVGA via e-mail and got nothing back, I called them and they said they'd call me back and nothing. I contacted both MSI & AMD again and gave them an update as to EVGA ghosting me and they both just approved replacements for me.
EVGA is trash in my opinion and I would not recommend any of their garbage to anyone.
TLDR; EVGA 1000w GQ psu fried my system & EVGA ghosted me.

Power supplies are very important i have 1st hand recent development. OK I have 2 PC and i was building my 5600x3d with 7800x5 and i used a 12 year old corsair tx-850 from my 5ghz 2600k rig when it was in action which led to tremendous capacitor and coil while on my Sapphire Pulse 7800xt when i put my evga modular 750watt PSU in the 7800XT rig and low and behold not anymore coil whine whatsoever. Video cards like clean power. I was shocked. Also installed a 40$ 5 pack of German Artic daisey chaining 140mm fans into the case from 6 120mms into my deep cool case 3 in intake 2 exhaust and temps dropped 10c and no wire clutter whatsoever..also using a single MB header is nice max of 7 per daisey chaiin

So sad. When Apple came out with the iPhone and iPad, I saw the potential and I was very enthusiastic. But then, they severely limited what can be done with the devices with their walled garden approach and the Apple Store. This was a long time ago and now my use of i-devices is very limited (reading, watching videos, basically) and I pursue my hobbies on other devices. Even if the antitrust lawsuits end up opening up their ecosystem, and we we will be able to have, say, emulators, real OS-es and proper games running on the device, it would still be too late. I certainly moved on, and I bet many people have too.

Why is psu-pin out not standardized The connector on the psu-side fits into most psu:s regardless of brand.Should be illegal. They are standardized on the device end already.
Most psu-cables are also unmarked making it easy to mix up cables when upgrading or modifying a system. It would be one thing if they had proprietary connectors on the psu-side.
Hope we can get some EU-legislation on this.
Should also be cheaper for the manufacturer by not having to manufacture many different models of cables. Also mimimizes waste.

So disappointing to hear that EVGA basically isn't going to support Motherboards it sold before shutting down its GPU Division. I bought a X570 ftw Motherboard and was looking to update the bios to support 5700x3d and 5600x3d, but they haven't done anything. Last bios update was back 2022! There was also another exploit bios update that was supposed to be released a couple of months ago that hasn't been released yet either. I've sent inquiries to EVGA as to if, when there would be an update, but haven't heard back yet.

I use different windows accounts for me and my child on the desktop. And being able to play without launcher is a big win for GOG. I prefer to buy there is it available. Now steam family is looking more usable in my scenario. I would not have to switch windows profiles to play It takes two or other of the games I have specifically bought for the child. The previous renting was looking way too restrictive and not worth the effort to setup digital life for a child

Remember BFG They made video cards and power supplies. They famously had lifetime warranties on their stuff. They did the same thing to me. I RMA'd a 6 year old power supply, they sent me one they said was equivalent because the exact one wasn't available anymore. They instructed me to leave the cables connected in my case and just send the brick. They sent one that fried my two BFG RTX 2080s I had set up in SLI. I wonder why they aren't around anymore.

EVGA has been doing a lot of dodgy things over the years most of it is cost saving by using cheaper low quality parts. Like the whole RTX 3090 situation were EVGA created a large amount of bad press for nvidia all because EVGA Cheaped out on some of the capacitors which resulted with Nvidia's board of directors to discontinue all relationships with EVGA. Entirely EVGA's fault there for causing bad press for a publicly traded company.

If Apple is on the hook so should nVidia, I mean what's the difference
nVidia in 2024 reminds me of Intel in 2010 ish..
Not to mention if you think for a second they are not controlling price and inventory of GPU's, then you're fooling yourself
nVidia store website, Oct 2023 last time 4090 was in stock, right before Christmas holidays; since then the 4090 has increased in price and you're lucky to get it for under $2500

You can sometimes fix those SSDs if you can solder. There's a mosfet that switches voltage to the actual electronics (I assume if everything is fine). If a short circuit or anything occurs, those might burn out. Replacing one with a straight wire would then allow accessing the data again. (I've had the same problem, used the wrong cables for a modular PSU and got a short circuit that fried the SSDs mosfet)

EVGA fed up but as a factory worker myself I do understand this sort of things can happen. As a Supervisor/Manager you can't really control everybody at all time and you have to entrust your workers. This case was a human error due to negligence by the looks of it. EVGA sorted the issue out quickly but now they have to get their CAPA in place and make sure this won't happen again.

After working with Corsair for a short while none of these stories of negligence or straight up malpractice surprise me anymore. It’s a top down issue in every case where people with a passion for the product, any care for the general state of the industry, or the future of our environment are pushed out and aside in favor of shareholder profits.

One thing that everyone should like, going after companies for potential violations of anti trust laws. Even if the government loses, companies should be worried about the threat of it so they regulate themselves. These companies are lucky to do business in the US, follow our laws and respect their customers. Or why expect regular people too.

I can see all these KS SKUs from Intel being very appealing for enthusiast overclockers (even though it's pointless today). There's no way they can justify the existence of these products being aimed at consumers, because if they advertised these chips for overclockers, I would be fine with it, just like there are so many OC motherboards.

Are you planning on evaluating the pc release of Horizon Forbidden West I'm playing it now and having a great time, and the performance has been excellent on my competent but not extreme recent build (13600kf, radeon rx 6800, 64g ddr4, separate fast but not extreme ssds for game and system.) Have encountered precisely one bug.

Apply will pay the fines out of petty cash. If Apple, by some miracle, were to allow jailbreaking, and/or stop cck-blocking almost every form of independent repair of Apple hardware, Steve Jobs would crawl out of his grave and likely launch the race ending zombie apocalypse everyone has (you HAVE haven't you) been preparing for.
reply

Is the reason why there is such little overclocking headroom now because the manufacturers are already pushing the products to near the limit I would assume back in the day when you had a ton of OC headroom the reason was because most motherboards and other hardware in the PC was not as advanced and robust as today

I stumbled across this issue when I was a newbie builder. Couldn't figure out why my computer didn't work and even took it to Geek Squad who also couldn't figure it out. Eventually they replaced the power supply at my cost. After that I found out about changing the cables when you change the power supply.

While having cloud backups is a good idea everyone should have a cold backup (for example a drive that remains unpowered 99% of the time) as it's safe from remote threats and depending on your Internet connection and how much data you need to backup a cloud solution may not be feasible.
reply

On the APO supported CPUs they have updated it and you can now run unsupported CPUs (12th and 13th gen) that are not in the list by turning on advanced mode in the APO app. However you need a newer DTT driver for it so you have to wait for it to release for your motherboard.
