Why do people use macOS? - Chris Titus Tech
video description
Now Windows had two hits, WindowsXP and Windows7 (Vista gets honorable mention). It still wasn't as perfect as MacOS, but it came really really close!
Now when it comes to gaming, it didn't get any better than Windows/DOS! MacOS is just a joke at running games. I remember seeing Quake3 on a Mac at a Virgin Mega store, and it looked like a PlayStation/N64 game running at 20fps..
And keyboard shortcuts are kinda a pain in MacOS vs. Windows. I just feel faster on the keyboard on PC, then I do on MacOS.

I mean, believe it or not, some people don't care about customizable interfaces and tweaking with OS functionality. They want to install a program, have an easy shortcut to the program, and have features that help their workflow. And plenty of people find the features of MacOS helpful to their workflow.
In a way, Apple products are built for businesses more than they're built for end users. When there's little in the way of changing the interface, a business can keep their apps and workflow very consistent and streamlined. Both businesses I work at have either an ipod or iphone for store use.
It's not all about having the most options and the most freedom. Sometimes it's just about the work getting done.

I had to use MacOS a few times and the keyboard differences were a headache because I wasn't familiar with them, but I think conceptually they're done much better than on the other platforms. Most common actions are done with Cmd which is a thumb key located on either side of the spacebar. Opening or closing a new tab is Cmd+T and Cmd+W both in the browser and terminal. Copying and pasting is Cmd+C and Cmd+V, again, also in terminal (Ctrl+C stops programs so there's no conflict). Switching windows also uses Cmd. That's vastly superior to the approach used in other platforms, where Ctrl and hence the pinky finger is used the most for modifiers.

i think the inverted 'natural' options has to do with trackpads/swiping in this instance but in other instances its simulating moving your head with the mouse. pulling the mouse back is like pulling ur top of your head back to look up, pushing the mouse forward is like pushing your top of your head forward to look down...-
if you understand it that way it makes way more sense. i still like the 'normal' way in most games since i think moving the mouse cursor and camera should be the same direction. again this was about trackpads/swiping though afaik

9:15 Customizability is one of the things that I personally like about the Xfce desktop environment.
13:38 The thing that the entire base system, including the whole non-graphical part of userspace is the open source Darwin OS system I know, with it's many BSD based software parts.
It's just the large graphical software layer which makes mac Os what it is known for and wich is still very closed source.
I am really curious what you Chris Titus view of the real BSD systems would be. Which are really great open source systems.

I major in comp sci but also write and produce music. MacOS is the only OS with a unix environment that is generally supported by audio software and plugins. Windows I lose out on the unix environment I prefer while programming, Linux I lose out on audio software compatibility, so MacOS is the best option for my use cases. Also, MacOS keyboard shortcuts for navigating and editing text feel mostly better to me than how it is on Windows, but I use a fairly unconventional keyboard layout so that experience may not translate to others.

Back in the 2000's a lot of my friends were buying Macs to get a stable windows under boot camp. then as time went on a lot of them ended up spending more and more time on the Mac side, which I found kind of amusing.
For myself I'm a Linux user from way back, but these days I spend most of my time on MacOS beause of Scrivener, and I can't say I hate it.

Unless you're doing hardcore video and photo editing you're wasting money with Apple. To me a phone is for taking calls and wasting time at the doctors office so why would I be paying $1300 or whatever for a phone? The iThingy fanbois are the worst. And I'm not a fan of having some corporate entity telling me what I can and can't buy as accessories.

Because they are too dumb to use windows ??
Just saying ... Seriously : the Mac environment is pleasant , easy and if you don't like to hack programs, it's rather safe.
In my country, it's the computer to get if you are : a doctor , a journalist or a Iphone user...
Me, I like to pay a fair price for my computer....
