ok so, i got this problem after an update i did today, said i had to update to a supported version of windows 10. it deleted some flash player thing and what not and took a while to finish, after i restarted my pc i still had to do an update which took longer to finish and then had to restart again. my sounds works but the quality has downgraded and it feels higher pitched than before, i've looked at the stereo and it's at 51 each side, with my earbuds it sounds justa little worse than before the update, i can confirm it's nothing to do with the earbuds because i tested it on 2 devices for 1 video.
pls if someone knows how to fix this do tell me because it does annoy me a bit that i don't know what is causing it and can't find a thing about it

I came here to comment that this video was suggested to me on a post where it's telling me how to fix an audio driver issue.... there's not good subtitles when I use the -CC- option so this video is unusable. It's highly ironic given this is about an audio issue.

My laptop didn't play sound when I put the earphone on. Tried all three methods and the third one worked. I uninstalled the driver, restarted the device and didn't have to reinstall the driver again but the sound already came back. Thank you so much!

The troubleshooter says the generic audio driver. The sound is all right for a few minutes, but then I get a loud humming sound, and my laptop freezes. Tried all the steps but nothing works.
