New Audio Equipment - Rack, Preamp, Compressor, EQ, Mixer DistroTube I bought a new audio rack and some equipment to mount in it, including a compressor, an EQ, and a mixer. I want to get more into hardware compression and EQ rather than relying on software to do the job. Just getting this stuff plugged in and seeing how it sounds. You spent way more thank you needed. That said, a quick tip to improve your audio: you are too close to the microphone, which results in loud plosives (that's the low rumble on letters like P and B). Moving the popscreen a bit lower (currently it is too high and barely reaches your lips height) would help some. Another issue with the close distance is you're getting changes in volume each time you turn your head around. The solution is just to move the mic further from you. With a condenser microphone (which you seem to have) you should go for at least the distance of your palm stretched from your lips to the mic. And you could often move it even further. On my studio monitors it seems like a bit much on the high frequencies, maybe also a bit much on the lows. Still, the audio is on par with just about any decent video, these are small details nobody would notice on a phone or laptop.

my noob instinct tells me to put the eq first in the chain - because I think eq should be applied on the source, then compressor and mixer and your interface respectively. Again, this is pure noob view and I know nothing about pro audio. Anyway, why do you need power conditioner, I thought these pro devices should be well-made enough not to be messed by dirty power - even consumer audio works fine today without snake oil power cable or conditioner (according to measurements) again, I may be wrong in this pro audio scenario. I-m a happy user of consumer DAC (Khadas Tone) and headphone amp (JDS Atom) tho, and this setup is PERFECT for audio playback under $200.

The equalizer operates on the frequency of the sound, the compressor/limiter may or may not change the frequency when it does it's thing. Mostly compression and limiting is an amplitude thing, but I don't know your equipment. I don't think it matters but I'd probably put the EQ after the compression.
BTW: I have no need for any of this kit and now I'm thinking I need to buy them... I'm not going to but it's interesting how infectious such stuff is.

to be honest you probably didnt really need a pc with as many cores or as much ram, now you have it you probably use it, but you could have done without it, should you have bought it? ABSOLUTELY YES 100%, you NEEDED ALL OF IT, because you WANTED IT ! lol, thats the way i see it, i dont need 3 pc's and 7 computer screens but i have them and i love every moment of using them all at the same time!
congrats on the upgrades mate.

Thanks for sharing DT, however, I honestly question whether that equipment is necessary. It may even over-complicate what you are trying to achieve. I am using a simple cheap USB mic with ALSA enabled and I think my audio quality is very good to excellent. I have had hum, etc. in a number of my videos, but, I believe it has been solved at this point. Cheers!

Man, you've come a long way in terms of production in a span of a little less than 2 years. That's quite another upgrade. The difference seems to be a little subtle, but there's definitely an improvement. I'm sure it'll get even better, the more time you tinker around with it:) Congrats!

the only major thing that keep me away from linux as a primary os is the DAWS and plugins (along with universal audio interfaces) ): my dream is to use mainly linux to develop my projects and do my job and also record my music and some other projects on it without switch OS.

Yeah.. Derek who has new audio equipment and pay 1000$ for that or Chris Tutus who spend the same cash for his new studio for making better YT videos... Both invested big cash to make better quality videos.. like them both.

Great video! Next you need a pair of studio monitors so you can listen to music the way it's meant to be! I have some Tannoy studio monitors. Look at the Tannoy Reveal 502 or the Yamaha HS5!

There's a bit of a delay between audio and video in all your videos, not by much but I can see it. You could do a couple of tests and check it out. Love the content!
