C'mon son, I get not liking chat, and also not wanting to moderate, so deleting is the best way to deal with that, no argument there. But calling chat 'unproductive and mundane' is a bit lowkey rude when so many, many many people grew up on chat platforms and made genuine friends over them.

Hey DT, I would suggest that you did a video where you show all of your forums and places you have. Show them in the extent that you want. It might get people interested in joining places like Mastodon, perhaps get some new patrons at Patreon etc.
Not that it would be the most thrilling video, but it would have it's purpose and it would be quite easy to make. And promoting alternative sites is always a good idea.

You could see if some people would be willing to help moderate them, but then you run the risk of getting the wrong person, like a power-mad whack-job; they kill communities so quickly, ar at least make them very toxic.

If it wasn't for the fact that all my friends and two years of chats are on Discord, I wouldn't be using it. It's proprietary, I don't agree with their mods or their TOS, I don't agree with their hostility towards people who modify the client even for theming purposes, and most importantly, it is the slowest most bloated Electron app I have ever used.

I have been watching your videos A TON in the last month, because i want to get into the Linux world, and i see that there are some videos missing in your repertoire, for example you could try and arch installation through Archfi, or do a Debian Minimal install with some Window Managers you like in it! Just few ideas :)

Kudos to you for your self-awareness and the courage to take action based on understanding what you would hate to do. It's a great example to the rest of us. Life is short and no one should feel compelled to keep anything going just because it was previously useful/practical.

I can understand that, I just recently made a second Discord account for actual friends and productive servers only, and since then i haven't wasted much time at all on discord. Feels better than before.

So Derek, moving forward for the live gaming we do from time to time, I suppose some of us who take part may have to have a Discord server or some other platform so we can all communicate. ;-)

I never caved. I don't think I'm alone in that either. I stick to the free software chat protocols like IRC, XMPP, and Matrix.

I quit Discord back in beginning of 2020, some servers are fun but It was time consuming for me. Plus the app was ruining my phone battery life.
