Alas. I live both within a cell service dead zone, and severe budget constraints. But I could see this being useful for something really interesting in my opinion: stand alone VR!
Could use this to escape the wifi range of the house with a stand along VR headset. My preference of headset would be the Lynx R1, rather than something like a Quest 2. But I don't have any VR headset yet, so it's all theoretical for me. This could allow you to do social VR stuff away from home. When traveling becomes a good idea again, anyway. Not that I have a lot of friends, or money to travel. Man, this is getting depressing.

Unfortunately, this is all hype! I live in an area that is supposed to be 5G Ultra Capacity, according to T-Mobile coverage maps. In real use, I get mostly 4G with two bars, so my speeds are between single digits and 50 mbps downloads. The portability is a great concept and hopefully using this to cut cable internet is a wish, but if there is weak coverage, it does not matter. It is not worth buying!

Thanks for this, man. I was about to just get this from Tmobile and bite the bullet and get the 100Gb plan. I've looked everywhere for unlimited to no avail, I've never heard of Calyx either and as a network engi, it's good to see companies like this taking privacy seriously. Much appreciate this, all in all you can't beat the value, especially when comparing it to Tmobile or any other services!

This is by far the best deal out there for internet, whether is mobile or at home. I have four questions if anyone can answer them.
Can it be permanently attached to a power source?
Can it be attached to a router via usb? (And still be attached to permanent power)
What is the WiFi range?
What is the latency? With a good connection.

I am confused as to what this is. Does it provide cellular service to a phone in its range without the phone having its on sim card? Or is it mainly to provide internet access sitting on top of their internal cellular service? Or something of both? Cellular sucks in my area although it sure isn't rural. So I doubt this would work well for me.

Battery life 24 hours. lol and 2. 5 Gbps (theoretical). yeah ill wait a few years untill they make something useful. also rediculous prices. what do you mean membership costs. my 10Gbps broadband internet is cheaper and also faster. might as well send one to china and have them remake it for free without membership

But, but triangulation? Ideally shouldn't you only use it outside your home and work.
It seems like the only way to really be psudamyous is to make your own multiple personal VPNs and hide them in the woods somewhere with some protocol to shut down if found. :(
But at least these things exist.

about the truly unlimited 5g. after 35 gb of data do you experience slow down because as far as I know that's a t mobile network wide thing? is it in the actual contract to be unlimited 5g hotspot speeds? use 300gb of data and let me know if it slows down.

The problem with wireless is that it scales like a jenga tower.
And that's besides the fact that you don't have your own shielded cable.
This project is great, especially in regards to costs and privacy. But be aware of the limitations.
