Ive been using this laptop for over 2 months. My logic board on both my mac pros died. I had been wanting to get one of these for awhile and was speaking to the engineers back in the UK. Super cool guys. I finally got obe, and I am not disappointed. Safe to say ill be getting another later on, MK4. Loyal customer. The build quality is amazing. Very elegant design. The PCIE Star Drive is quite fast. The laptop runs cool and quiet. I decided to take off Ubuntu and installed Windows 10. Absolutely no issues. Quite satisfied and I highly recommend it over any other laptop with these specs. Duly note, my last MacBook had 16gb compared to 8gb, however, very minimal difference for what I've been doing. You can talk to them and request a 16gb ram unit The guys at Starlabs are great. They also sent me some toys. Get it, you won't be disappointed. oh yeah, and it boots up in 10 seconds. And it also is 4g/Lte capable.

Hmm, it's actually a bit unfortunate that we can't get any good (new) laptop for a reasonable price.
Lenovo could offer something like this because their notebooks are actually very nice.
I owned a T40, T60, T400, T430 and now I own a T440p and all of them offered a great driver support on Debian and Arch Linux.
I even currently run my T440p with 2x SATA SSDs and two m. 2 SSDs and I used adapters to run those two additional SSDs but never got any problems with them.
I hope that I do not have to upgrade in the near future since there is no other laptop that offers such an possibility like 4 user replaceable storage devices or even supporting an Raid 10 setup with those SSDs/HDDs

Linux Laptops are often more expensive cause they aren't produced at the same scale. the larger the scale, the cheaper the computer. And Linux Laptops that are sold are often a very niche thing. Not only are Linux users among the lower percentile, but Linux is often installed by people who already have a computer or by people who choose their own distro.
So it's actually very normal for it to be as expensive as it is.

Really appreciate the review and comparison. Request review of purism, system 76, tuxedo laptops.
Unfortunately, in india such good laptops aren't available and buying in Euro, dollar, pounds is huge cost. Star labs do sell in indian rupees but ship from UK! I am not sure what will they do for after sales & repairs. I had to buy hp 15 windows laptop & install Linux though it's good. Pity.

Hey, not sure if you'll see this, but do you know how I can contact customer support or staff at Star Laptop? I pre-ordered the new Mark IV, but haven't gotten any email of confirmation over the past 2 weeks. It was supposed to arrive a couple days ago. I've search their entire site but there seems to be no -Help- option.

My msi gaming laptop from 2016 run Linux very well for the moment, I've tested Debian Ubuntu Mint Arco Manjaro Fedora Mx Deepin and Pop_os and no issue.
Btw a Linux enthusiast friend of mine just bought a new Lenovo Thinkpad and Linux didn't run, so you definitely have to check compatibility on forums or whatever

Finally found a vid just for Star Labtop! Thanks Rob! I am using this for the past few months and the only FRUSTRATION I have is less community, and problem or trouble in installing VMware such as VurtualBox and or VMware Fusion / Workstation Player. Please create a tutorial. Thanks!

I would agree 100% on the last point that we Linux users are second class citizens on laptops. As I was struggling to find a perfect laptop to work on Linux. And finally fed up with all laptops and planning to by a razor blade Stealth and install linux on it

Thanks for this great review. I have been in the market for a linux laptop and went with the one from purism. I'm still waiting for it to ship lol. Linux users really are second class citizens.

thinkpads are great to run linux on, I'm using a t440p that is running Arch and only paid $30 for it on ebay. upgraded to 16gb of ram, 1080p IPS screen, i7-4702mq cpu, and 256gb SSD. best laptop ever
