Who Should Switch to Linux and Who I Have Switched to Linux - Chris Titus Tech In this video, I am going over who should switch to Linux. I also go over who I have switched to Linux. These answers may surprise some of you Stan: I know one thing you can't do in Windows, keep it from crashing once every 6 months. Another almost impossible thing to do is control when updates are installed. Switched almost totally to Linux Mint this year, plays all the Windows Live (or is it dead) games I want to play, does the work processing I want to do, and under DOS Box it runs my old Dos games and Lotus 123, Dbase, and Word Perfect which is very rarely used due to libre office). Starting to outpace my old Amiga. So I fixed up Windows, it is sitting on my newest fastest computer, where I can't really do anything because my internet stopped. So there it sits as it should be, unused, maybe if a new game comes out, I will take a more detailed look and repair it, but why, it seems to crash every other month. So I don't even trust it for games anymore. Windows is broken, and not only does it need a new pane of glass, it needs to be made where it isn't such a pain in the well you know the word.

If you're a teacher or a translator, using Windows is losing time and money -use LINUX. I can't really say anything about other professional fields, but whenever I have had to use Windows for either of those two, I really suffered.
For the translators: multiple workspaces are the kind of luxury you just don't want to live without once you've tried it. One 15.6-inch screen can hold the original, your translation, and any number of dictionaries and articles you may need -all fullscreen.
For the teachers: most of your computer work is writing stuff such as exams, classroom material, marking tables and suchlike. Loads of marking papers and stuff, preparing classes based on online textbooks, writing online textbooks. Researching topics to deal with in class, that kind of stuff. You can have all the software for free, safe from viruses, and it's really, really easy. Plus, you'll come over as tech-savvy by simply saving time and money ;-)

I have a friend who knows I'm a computer professional, but treats me like a know-nothing when it comes to computers. One day I come to his house and he's installing a brand new copy of Windows Vista (Windows 7 had been out for a couple of years at that point). I said what are you doing? He said -I'm going to give my old computer to my aunt-. I said, -Why are you installing a brand new, $300, copy of Vista?- (It already had Vista on it). I don't remember what he said, but I asked him -What does she do with it-. He said, -Surf the web, send e-mail, and watch videos.- I said, -is that it?- He say, -Yup-. I said, -Why don't you just put Red Hat Linux on there?- He looked at me askance and never answered me.

I switched 13 years ago as a non power user since I really, really didnt like Win Vista. Working to Learn Linux Distros and the new found intrigue it spurred in me made me into a power user. Whenever I did an install of a new distro I found with patience and reading I could change any part of it and install anything and it just sucked me in! I went back to Win 10 when I got into gaming but was frustrated with the lack of flexibility and the blatant spyware baked in. Learning Linux made my career by making me decide to go to College for IT. I am now a Systems Administrator in a Linux/Windows environment. I now am running a good chunk of my Windows games on Debian

I've been a professional developer since 1998. (programmed years before that for fun of it). I am stuck in Micro$oft stack because that's what makes me money. I've used linux and other Unix systems a lot at the same time on servers. (SCO Unix and HP-UX) Been using linux since before it had a GUI. I still run linux on a few laptops I have at home and love it. But after 20 years of experience developing applications for Windows it would be hard for me to switch to Linux stack and make the same money. I would love to use Linux everyday but still have to use Windows to make a living. :)

The problem with linux so far are unpolished DE's. Gnome is badly scaled on lower res monitors, KDE is having too much customisation, bad file managers, bad drag and drop file feature, not on all applications work. Although i like its terminal, like most annoying thing is moving files from one folder to another because if folder is su only it cant be moved and its hard to do it (There's no run like administatorish button for some file managers) i would rather just pull terminaland use mv command with su privileges than to google how to run file manager with su privileges.

I switched to Linux more than 20 years ago. The main reasons are stability and no virus. For an individual, it's great : great web browsing, comprehensive system, bash and python scripting, and all my electronic softwares do exist on Linux: Cadsoft Eagle, Kicad, Freerouter, you name it. Libreoffice is enough for personal use. After years of KDE1, 2, 3 desktops, my preferred is Linuxmint Cinnamon. It's really good and Microsoft should just copy a such comprehensive desktop. Seriously, since W8, the windows desktop sux.

Great video. I love Linux. I agree Windows is a nightmare, especially Windows 10. In spite that Linux is not popular on PCs, 80% of the people use ANDROID, that is a form of Linux, so, most of the people around the globe, they are already using Linux. I was thinking, what if Linux distros become more like Android OS and use the touch screen like an Android phone. I think, more people will be willing to switch to Linux. We are living on a Renaissance of Linux. Now, you can play video games, do video editing, etc in Linux.

Just tried out Linux (Fedora KDE) and I absolutely love it. I am actually kind of a win poweruser myself but linux just does the basic so much better. My CPU idles at 1% not 10%, my RAM at 2GB not 6GB, window managements is actually better in KDE than in Windows and I have no f---ing issues with youtube-dl or npm. I even found out that the Xbox Wireless Adapter is just a wifi card cause when I started linux it showed me wifi networks on my desktop pc without a wifi card lmao, that was a suprise.
