Is it safe to hold back updates to the kernel? Doesn't that mean you miss out on critical security patches? On Manjaro, I'm currently using the 4.9 Kernel which was installed with the linux49 package. Manjaro is still constantly pushing out patches to that older kernel version. Does Debian not maintain multiple kernel trees like Manjaro does?

I expect Linux may get a mini surge of users when Windows 7 support finishes January 2020. For those that missed or procrastinated during the free upgrade to windows 10. Mostly to the free Mint and Ubuntu versions no doubt. Or the free PC Chrome OS version. Unless they opt for the payed support offer for the first year of windows 7 expiry.

I've recently started watching your videos and dabbling with Linux on my old laptop. I find your videos really informative and useful... but I have one thing that I've noticed, and now I can't un-hear it. You always say -exspecially-, instead of especially, and it's driving me mad. Has anyone else noticed this?

I was using the 4.15 kernel on some random Chinese Mint mod that I've tinkered, and then I thought hey what about using UKUU and going right to 5.2 ?? Well I did this, and honestly, I don't see the difference, everything is stable, games run normal, boots just fine and quick, etc..

I am running several distros, each on their own 120 GB SSD. Several are using the 5.0 kernel with no issue. I have been trying to install Fedora Rawhide and have not yet been successful, but I was
using an unofficial build that had not past Fedora's release unofficial test.

Chris, how do you know that FreeSync works? On Windows there is some pendulum test and ealier there was a windmill test but other than playing games and hoping that it works because you didn't see any tears how do you get a 100% certain confirmation that FreeSync works?

5.0 is SHIT on my dual Xeon X5365 which is not normal

What a disaster, we have UKUU luckily for noobs. 4.18.0-22 is perfect

I tried 5.0 on my laptop, i got problem that sometimes touchpad doesnt work after boot, and then after restarting it works. I wanted it to try freesync but hack to enable it seems harder to do than windows, seems i need to make modded EDID.

If you just upgrade the major kernel version you will still have thousands of files dependent on the old major version. Everything needs to be updated when making a huge jump like that, there's not really backwards compatibility in linux.

Linux doesn't use semantic versioning, so 5.0 might have just been called 4.21 but Linus doesn't want to have very high minor versions for some reason. Instead we'll just see high major version numbers in the not too distant future.
