In part 1, Alaina built a budget gaming PC, then she and Adam gave it a spin in Half-Life 2 before hopping into GeForce Now. It ran pretty well! Now in part 2, we're gonna play Crysis (as requested during the first livestream, as well as drop in an RX 570 to see how performance is affected by the CPU and motherboard's limitations. Want to roll a $300 gaming PC of your own? Here's our suggested parts list, tuned with an eye for discounts & sales (as of 2/4/2020): - AMD Athlon 3000G ($55) - - ASRock A320 A320M-HDV R4. 0 ($55) - - Patriot Viper Blackout 8GB [2x4GB] DDR4 3000MHz ($40) - - PNY Technologies CS900 500GB SATA III SSD ($55) - - (Alternative #1: Western Digital Blue M. 2 500GB SATA SSD, $60 - - (Alternative #2: Intel 660p M. 2 NVMe 512GB SSD, $70 - - Thermaltake Versa H15 ($43) - - Corsair CX 450 80+ Bronze PSU ($30) - Bonus upgrade option: - ASRock Phantom Gaming D RX 570 4GB ($110) - ---Our build in the video has a couple of parts from different brands (due to what's available for use in our lab, but performance should still be similar Follow the crew on Twitter: -GordonUng -BradChacos -MorphingBall -AdamPMurray Shot on Sony a7s ii's

PCWorld, this is one of the many reasons why Windows sucks as a platform for gaming. Unfortunately Microsoft created a monopoly for itself but actually Linux is a better platform for gaming. Adam mocked the suggestion to run it in Linux (and Alaina went along with it) but that person (it was not me) actually makes a good point, for older games like this you have better odds with Linux. Why? Because the WINE-guys search out which versions of the software you need and MS does not put much effort in that. Windows7/10 not using the right versions of older software for these games, that is in the core the reason why Adam and Alaina couldn't get the game to run. Adam and Alaina, ask your colleague Brad about it and let him have a chat with Jason Evangelho. They will tell you the same.
If you want to know how good WINE works these days then install Manjaro on your system and then install Lutris and let Lutris install StarCraft2, you will notice that it has the same performance as on Windows. That is how good WINE works. What does WINE do? It simply replaces the functions of the Windows-libraries and it gives the same outputs for the same inputs. Why does WINE work so great now while you heard horrorstories in the past? Because MS didn't add a lot of software giving the community time to catch up and because a lot of smart WINE-users have written scripts which automatically install the correct versions of software, that really is most of it.

Crysis does not max out the CPU and GPU while running with 20 FPS -1080p and low settings because the memory bandwidth on an APU (or CPU with integrated graphics) is the limiting factor. DDR4 is not great for gaming, getting data from DDR4 to the GPU doesn't go fast enough for large 'amounts' of data. That is the big problem for APU's, the 'simple' solution is to put HBM2 or another version of stacked memory on the APU but then you need a larger die-space and an APU has to be cheap. Also the surface area of the Zen2-PCB might be a bit too small for that, difficult to tell. You want better performance with the current APU's? Low AA, lower quality shadows, less post-precessing, possibly a lower quality of textures (depending on the game. You don't have to turn everything low, just those processes that require a high throughput of memory or a lot of memory (compared to what the APU has available. Hitman had no lesser performance because of the PCIe-lanes (that integrated graphics does not need those, it was 100% the CPU not keeping up.

The rx 570 can't reach its full potential cause its bottlenecked buy the athlon 3000g but its way better of course then on board vega 3 graphics, and games like hitman and tomb raider need more cores and your windows 10 is not optimized, and in amd settings turn off all those settings like input lag and that amd anti sync and sharpening all those settings wil help with performance and way less stutters in games i know own a rx 580, and own lots of video cards over my 20 plus years of computers i know hardware very well

Load up gpu z or cpu z it will show how many pci-e lanes your running, but it the rx 570 should be running in pci-e 3. 0 x4 which is the same as pci-e 2. 0 x8 show the rx570 will lose about 5 to 10% of itsp performance, but again what your really gettings bottlenecked by is the amd athlon 3000g 2 cores 4 threads is not enough to keep up with the rx 570 in most games that need mores cores and threads should the rx 570 your only getting about 70% of its performance

Nice video. About Crysis, I tried to use the 64bit binaries from Warhead among other stuff related to Proton (yes, i use linux playing games, and had the same problems: able to install the game, but it ends in a black screen after i hit start. Why the game isnt already downloaded with the 64bit binaries?

1st. Tip. Use HWinfo64. 2nd. When measuring GPU and CPU temps, you first have to have the sensor monitor running. Then run the game with the sensor monitor also running which will then show the CPU and GPU temps under load.

I blame -GeeForce- on all the -gif- / -jig- pronunciation shenanigans. But if it turns into a thing, they should have Joe Rogan on the front of the box choking out the competition.

Adam just the fact you know that song proves that yes you are white and nerdy. Lol! And I love your hair the way it is. I wish I could get mine like that

Shouldve compared this to an i7 2700
You can find used i7 8gb oem systems for CA$200
I think the cpu would be way better but igpu idk.

Crysis worked perfectly with windows 10 but only on 32bit, i tried 64 bit did not work, but i did not play with crysis files or the patch yet
