I think another reason it's not called the Titan, is that they're leaving that spot ready for an actual Titan that will come later, with the full 84 SM die and even more VRAM.
I see the 3090 as more of a hybrid between an 80Ti and a Titan. Most of its marketing is about gaming, and the AIB's are making their own versions of it complete with gaming branding and RGB everywhere. Really, the only thing about it that makes it Titan-like is the 24GB of VRAM. Big framebuffer increases used to be the norm though, and you could easily argue we were overdue for a doubling of VRAM at this point anyway. So yeah, I see it more as a disappointing 80Ti than a Titan.

I planned on keeping my 2080. Even though I was getting a 3090. But have to play the waiting game with the new cards. I have 1070 ti in my other system. I prefer the 2080 in blender. And use its Ray tracing features frequently. When I use a 1070 ti in blender. I'm like. Its just not as good as my 2080. For what I want it and need it to do. I was one of those guys who's very happy. That he got his rtx 2080. I'm with Gordon on this one. I feel bad for the guys who had to buy a 1080 ti. When it was $500 or less. Why would I use that for Ray tracing. Why would I use that for the RTX features in unreal 4.

It will be interesting to see where Big Navi will come in regarding performance by comparison. If Big Navi does indeed come in around 10% faster and more energy efficient than a 3080 and priced at around $799 that could blow up Nvidia's pricing scheme on the 3090 because if Nvidia replies with a 3080ti to compete they would have to price it accordingly and completely undercut the 3090 pricing significantly considering the performance advantage at that point would only be around 5% or less for the 3090. Very exciting stuff.

I've built in all kinda of cases in the past couple of years I've build in a Lian Li O11 Air and M-ATX and several ITX cases. The easiest was my smallest case, the 8. 7L Noulovo Steck.
You build the system on the spine then attach the top, bottom and sides. I didn't want to use the stack because I wanted the smallest possible size, so I did compromise on the CPU and went with the R5 3600. My other ITX systems are running 9900K CPUs in comparison.

In Finland atleast hundreds of people have ordered and paid 3090 without knowing when it will be available to them. And if we scale the demand for 3090 world wide by GDP we would get atleast hundreds of thousands. How I know, well, if almost all stocklevels are (less than -25) but one model -23, and with other retailer -25 on most models also but some -15. People have ordered those and gotten in line for next batch by prepaying.

That RTX 3090 looks like a monster for work, things like Blender, 3D modelling or AI. Still, in gaming its barely better than an RTX 3080, and while there is a giant price gap between the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090 I don't see anything in between making much sense, really. I mean, what would the performance delta be, 5%? Would you even be able to tell that difference in-game?

Nvidia is really trying to play both sides with the 3090, isn't it? They won't provide the professional drivers, so you lose performance there, but it's only 12% faster rhan the 3080. So it seems like it just a card designed for bragging rights. Bragging rights for owners, and for Nvidia.

Where did you see EVGA announcing when they'd have cards in stock on twitter? I'm looking over the main EVGA twitter and Jacob's over the past week and only see a record of them saying when they are out of cards for a given day

I'm sure Nvidia and all retailers are so disappointed that they sold all their stock in seconds. I'm sure they'll do a much better job of not having all their stock cleared in seconds from now on.
reply

Ironic thing is anyone who sold their 2080 Ti months before the 30 series launch have likely lost any savings they would've enjoyed because they're now paying the scalper premium on ebay.
