The only gpu that can beat and last the next gen consoles entire 9 years cycle is the rtx 3090 or rtx 6900xt. Next gen consoles are capable of 13. 5gb of vram minimum (can go higher) and no one is telling you this specially pc people. All 8gb vram gpu will be obsolete by year 4 while consoles keeps on playing more demanding graphics for 5 more years. Console are always future proof equipped with superior vram. rtx 2080ti has 11gb vram but it has outdated inferior tech, architecture and features it will be obsolete by year 4 too. RDNA 2 was first built on next gen consoles and they made RDNA 2 gpu after for the pc market. Next gen console RDNA 2 is the foundation of next gen gaming. Rdna 1 and turing architecture are 2 year old techs and next gen consoles are completely on a whole another level you will see it by year 3-4 and up.

Isn't it a really bad idea to build with last generation CPU and GPU right now? In a few weeks the prizes for these parts should fall drastically I would guess.
I just had a look at the prizes with pc-part-picker. At least here in Germany there does not seem a prize drop so far. But there should be one, when zen 3 and RX 6000 series hit the market, right?

0: 35 Price was the elephant in the room for me, so thanks for discussing that right off the bat. Since Gordon isn-t here (shhh, I-ll go ahead and say it: this coming gen of consoles is giving the PC a run for its money.
PS I love PCs and consoles, though I skipped the X1X and PS4 generation.

If the 6800 60CU RDNA2 is 18-20% faster than the 3070 than The Xbox series X 52CU RDNA2 is at LEAST as fast as the RTX3070 but most likely 5% faster. On top of that add console optimization and with 52CU and it should blow it away.
I'm guessing AMD's 6700 will be around 3070 performance

You need more than 8 core CPU to give you the same gaming experience than 8 core can give you on consoles. Consoles can automatically dedicate everything to the game on the screen while PC's cant. You should upgrade to 12.

I also agree with Helena. let the sun shine on all console/PC users. who cares what you play on. it is the games we care about! The hardware IS interesting. but please. everyone has their own preference. can we not just. co-exist?

You simply cant match price/performance of the next gen consoles right now. The consoles also have some custom stuff that you cant have on PC at all right now. And last but not least, games. Dark Souls remake for instance.

You guys keep forgetting to add the cost of xbox live or ps plus into the cost of next gen consoles. 5 years of membership = $300 / so a console in five years would actually cost you $800

There's no way Gordon saw this, haha. A 3700X instead of Zen 3 (5600X for instance, at a similar price) and a 2080Ti? Really, 2080Ti? Also, isn't that GPU a lot more than what a PS5 has?

If you want to get as close to the consoles as possible, then the 2700x would probably be closer in regards to performance rather than the same exact architecture/topography.
