The RTX 3080 for best GPU of the year, Gordon! So we were promised evolution in tech, instead what we got was a back step to 300 and 400W graphics cards, an environmental mess, a hot mess too solved only by 150 dollar coolers, and instead of solving ray tracing at their second iteration, NVDA just improved it by a few dozens percent in RT performance.
You got to be kidding on the technical side of the subject.
The RTX 2ks were an awful proposition, everywhere you want to look at, but for energy consumption. This time around with the consoles arriving, they had to concede in pricing, or else millions would jump ship from PCs.
Evolution? No.
Revolution? No.
Joke? Yes.
If only you had elected some of the competition. They presented the goods, but failed on performance and had to overclock their cards for what they re worth, throwing caution to the wind.
AMD should have sticked with lower performing cards like the console versions, much more efficient energy wise, much cooler and quieter, and also should have brought us much cheaper cards. The monopoly has just became a duopoly.
There s no winner this year, but if you want to elect one, be honest about it, we have competition again. performance wise. Price wise, it s not pretty.
Also, ray tracing is nowhere near ready for prime time, Legions and 2077 expose it to anyone wanting to see. Unless we all want to go back to playing games at 720p and back to PS2 times.
NVDA, such a pity. They could deliver, but they don t want to. They do just enough for competition to show up, because of monopolies. and state investigations.
All in all a great show as always, great stuff on choices, but don t agree on Gordon s graphic, that s all.

My opinion with everything in playing games in 4k/8k hdr plus the current graphical whether you are team radeon or team geforce, we are starting to need more than 24GB on gpu's if you don't want to be off handling shit into system ram.
unless you are going to consider 24/48 core cpu/gpu with 8x m. 2 with 128GB to 2TB ram in a small form factor.
downside to gaming these days you are building mass storage 180TB with 120-160 TB in ssd as caching access storage.
Stadia in homes today requires local server storage and distribute similar how steam works.
ah the biggest thing is 12+/4 hdmi.
seriesx requires usb dongle
as for team playstation
flight stick last about 4 years it works today come next game update the flight sticks like wheels die.
3060 is more available than the 3080.
though like I said before ram is the key sadly 24GB is a dead option

Gordon is so wrong on Apple m1there's no competition they control the stack. PC and x86 in general don't have that same market availability meaning that AMD or Intel can't design something that expensive expect the OEM to pay that price if they did pay that price they'll pass that price on to the consumer so imagine an x86 with hbm memory configuration. Expect the outcry from dram vendors Patriots Kingston crucial they will cry because you took their source of income away. PC can do what Apple did just look at zen three how the larger pool of cache improved performance tremendously.
so please x86 is only hamstrung by the way the market for them works the ecosystem for them works apple on the other hand have no competition no ecosystem to speak of they are it.

Brad while I agree with you that dlss 2. 0 is awesome what you fail to see is that by this time next year maybe that dlss 2. 0 or maybe if Nvidia wants to introduce 3. 0 would be something that is smaller in adoption than what AMD wants to implement, which is all of consoles using super resolution. so while you want to dismiss amd's GPU because they don't have dlss AMD understand that they may have lost this battle but they will win the war in the long run when Xbox and PS5 roll out super resolution as a standard API tool for the developer converting it over to PC is probably a simple optimization. So why would any PC Port used dlss when the code optimization is already there unless you are cdprojektred already in nvidia's pocket.

The 3080 like the 2080. Is just another substitute card. I have a 2080. I don't need to replace it with a 3060 ti. I know my the 2080 stands in performance. Plus it has usb c. AMD has that now. It looks like ram is the deal breaker going forward. 3090 or bust for 3d work and gaming on the side. Unless Nvidia can pivot 2021. Good on AMD for pushing 16gb. I would call that barely enough for the near future.

Is game pass different on console vs pc? We don't have EA play and MS just delayed it til next year on the day it was meant to go live. I thought destiny 2 newest expansion was supposed to be included for free but I can't get it either. I've only had forza games to play since getting the service.

16 Cores are also useful for productivity with Virtual Machines! I have 3950X and with its virtual 32 cores are great to run multiple virtual machines! Oh and I do rendering too! LOL

The 5000 series are actually available on and off just browsing Amazon and Newegg.
They are there all the time but they would be easy to buy if you really wanted them.

I'm usually pretty anti-Nvidia, but I agree with Brad. The 3060ti is the only card which does what it needs to do, and has enough Vram for it.
