Intel isn't punching back, they're swinging hard and somehow connecting with their own face. This comparison doesn't make them look good, and it doesn't hurt Apple, it makes them look desperate, and it validates the fact that Apple is now competing against them successfully using a freaking ARM chip. Intel needs to fix its fabs instead of publishing selective benchmarks that nobody actually thinks represent real-world performance.
Also, obviously, the numbers in those charts are correct, Gordon. No reasonable person thinks Intel makes up numbers. The problem is that they don't represent reality, because Intel picked the numbers that made them look good, just like Apple did when they published their M1 benchmarks. Think back about your reaction to Apple's numbers, Gordon, and how you told everybody not to believe them. The same applies here. These numbers are correct, but they're misleading, just like Apple's M1 numbers were. Why is anyone paying any attention to anything these manufacturers say? It's obviously not trustworthy.
You can't say -these numbers are cherry-picked, but they're real. - That's a bonkers thing to say! If they're cherry-picked, they're not representative, so it doesn't matter if each individual number is technically real. This is like doing a trial of a new cancer drug, discarding all of the people where the medicine didn't work, and then telling us that it has 100% efficacy at curing cancer. It's a complete lie. Intel is lying to us. Stop defending them.
Finally, no, benchmarking two different devices is not valid. I'm not buying two different devices and running the tasks on whichever is faster, and I'm not using the battery from one notebook, and the cooling system from another. I'm buying one device, and doing my tasks on that device. So it's completely meaningless to me that there is a laptop with good battery life, and a laptop that's fast, if I can't get an Intel laptop that does both of these things, while Apple does make a laptop that is fast, and -also- has good battery life.
Stop making excuses for Intel. This kind of fanboy defense of Intel contributed to enabling them to slack off to the point where they now get their butts beaten by a freaking glorified mobile phone chip. Listening to Intel fanboys making defenses for this kind of thing feels exactly the same as listening to Mac blogs making defenses for Apple's software quality. These companies are not your friend! Stop defending them when they screw up, and when they lie to us.

Wow that m1 intel thing went on for so long. A win is a win. Good for intel and pc world for showing some intel advantage. Especially gigapixel ai. Know lots of photographer friends on macs and windows using that.
Curious since they showed the battery life comparison with acer swift and MacBook air. Why not do the performance benchmarks there. On battery as well. Some windows laptop on battery with performance mode does not match up to MacBook on battery.
I think it-s good for intel to compare with m1. You know they are worried now, and will work to give you better products. Windows running the surface ads are also true. The current launch of macbook air and the cheapest pro are boring products, no innovation by many standards. The drawbacks are real as well, like no headphone jacks on phones, it-s a real issue for most people, and single monitor unless you are ready to read forums and hacks, no wacom not too big deal, can run the cheapest iPad with pen support. M1 still quite experimental, just really good showing for 1st gen product, i5 class chip. MacBook Air with that performance at that price. Waiting for their i7 class price chip.

Isn't M1 a 10 watt chip and the intel reference system chip a 12-28 watt? Also, why does the test system suddenly change to another laptop for the battery test? In this case a laptop with a larger battery than the Mac if I read the specs correct. I'm in no way a mac-fan, I use both Mac and PC, just that those things stood out to me.

Hey it's apple First Laptop CPU and already Intel is complaining, can't wait for M2 so Intel can start making Better CPUs on Mobile and Desktop the more competitions the better: D

I'm running an M1 based MacBook Air for work and I've been very impressed with my current workflow. No slow downs, no delays and multitasking is surprisingly good. I'm an AMD fan boy at heart but I do give credit where it's due. The M1 is good. Gotta hand it to Apple. I'm impressed.

. i just received a birthday donation of the new MacBook Air M1. my initiation into MacOS after 35 years of computing. PC Windoze will stay on my desktop but happy to see the competition heating up.

Like HP & Lenovo, putting Intel Nxxx CPU in a laptop frame, and calling it a LAPTOP & sell it for over $500, which if you test it, runs like a netbook, that should cost under $250.
