Zodwraith: I like this direction but it's concerning to add more segmentation to an already segmented market. I think to be more universally compliant a good middle ground is having all connectors at a 90 degree angle to point out the side of motherboards like some manufacturers have dabbled with in the past. The biggest thing we need all these AIBs to settle on is a standard for front panel connectors. They're easily the biggest PITA due to their size and depth into your case.
