Lightroom Keywords Explained

besides keywording, we'll also look into what you can do when something goes wrong with your collections which was also discussed in the previous video. We'll learn what actions you need to take when you accidentally delete or remove photos from Lightroom collections. Suppose, you are looking for a head shot of a statue, like the one in the thumbnail, and your Lightroom catalog has thousands of images. How will you search it? That's where keywording comes into play. If you select the image and tag or keyword that as, say: statue, portrait, face etc. The next time you use the find/search option in lightroom and type statue, all the pictures that you had keyworded as statue will appear. But, if you type 'face' or 'portrait' along with statue. That particular image will pop up. If you think keywording will take a lot of time, don't you worry. You don't need to keyword all your images. You just need to keyword your best shots, the shots that you care about. We learnt how to keep all your best shots in one place in the previous video. Creating collections in itself is a great way to keep your images organized, and keywording takes it to a whole another level

If you havent put keywords on your images it is not too late. Create a collection of all your images, sync it with Lightroom CC. Use smart search in Lightroom cc to find your statue, or any other clearly identifiable thing and save the search results to an album. The album will sync back to Lightroom Classic CC where it will be saved as a collection in the From LR mobile collection set. Select the images in this collection and add the keywords. I always add the keywords in Lightroom Classic CC so that they are written to the original files. I have over 40, 000 images in my catalogue, some of which were bulk loaded from scans of pre digital photos. Using smart searches I have identified all the beach scenes, waterfalls, animals, birds, flowers, mountains, ships, cars, buildings, etc. Once you create an album of you can search within it for particular shapes, for example an album of flowers could be searched for all daffodils, or roses. Search for trees and then narrow the search to fall colour. There may be false positives but these can quickly be removed from each album. I hope one day they will add smart searches to Lightroom Classic CC. Please note the original syncing of my images took several days. Once the collection is synced to the cloud it does not take too long to sync back to Lightroom Cc, whether on the desktop, IPad or Android device. The added benefit is you have an easily accessible version of your smart preview images available on the web. Using Lightroom CC in this way does not impact on the amount of Adobe Cloud storage you may be using.

OK, so like you I have several thousand photographs on my hard drives ( 2 4TB drives, one backed up to the other, both nearly full! ) & I have always created a folder & put todays photos in. My naming strategy was. One folder for each year, inside each year folder was 12 other folders, Jan - Dec. inside each of these folders were more folders labelled with the date and a description. So let's say inside the 2017 folder, go to May folder and then look for the folder with the images that I want. labelled eg. 12. 05. 17 Lymm Dam (that's near where I live. Question is HOW do I catalogue all these into lightroom? I have always used Bridge & ACR, but it would appear I am on my own there, so thinking of defecting to the other side and trying lightroom. Should I buy a comfy chair & book a month off work? or is there an easy way to go about switching & cataloging? (please say yes, Thnx in advance.

Remove image from collection accidentaly? Windows, ctrl+z (undo last action ) far more simple and less boring than wading half way through a video,
