we will also look at some exceptions and workarounds for situations when this technique might be challenging to apply cacophonix: Hi Unmesh - I was trying to use this technique yesterday to visualize a new paint color on a house exterior. I followed the steps, but no matter how much I changed the hue (or combination of all three sliders, it would not move to the target hue. I think starting hue was 38 and target was 219, and the closest I got to was 224. If you want I can send you the image privately. Please let me know of a workaround. Thanks!

Do you know where I can check the math behind lightness adjustment's effect on brightness & saturation? I'm coding up a project, and PS's lightness adjustment works in a mysterious way. Just like you said, when you add more lightness, brightness goes up and saturation goes down, but it doesn't seem to be a linear relation. If anyone knows the formula, thanks!

on the hue/saturation, after I chose handtool, color picker icon appears and when i click the picture, the hue/saturation panel closes. It did not change to blue and stays as Master. Any ideas? there is no range underneath too created. any ideas?

Are Adobe Engineers even aware that the software they've built is able to do all these things? Is this something they've planned or is PixImperfect just making the most out of existing features?

Can I ask for the uses of the lastest color bar, after pick color tools and colorize. I have known the user of Hue - Satur - Light but the color bar downest is the only thing make me confuse

its ridiculous how photoshop still doesnt have an easy functionality for this. that being said, your tutorial FINALLY addressed a proper solution for me. THANK YOU! lasteezlyfe

It doesnt work for me. I wanted to change the shirt from blue to white. And the HSB stats where: 120-1-81. 120-1 works, but i cant reach 81 ( brightness)

Thanks Unmesh for your informative and well produced tutorials. Like some other comments in a bit surprised PS haven't provided this as a neural filter

Weird, I'm finding it's actually not possible to reach the specific colour I need (converting a purple to a red at 350 89 89) with this method.

Wow! Ive been matching colour by eye for ages. I never even thought of using the HSB values and doing some simple math! Thank you

Hello there, thank you for sharing, great tut. Just one question, is there a work around when there is a print on the garment?
reply

I wonder if when the target colour is too far off, you could desaturate, then use this technique with colourise?
reply

I want to use this to turn silver into gold, but since the silver is grey this method doesn't work. Any solutions?
reply

for the brighter colours just make it in steps like bring the brightness on the go not in one adjustment layer
