Smart NEW Layers Feature in Photoshop!

Smart NEW Layers Feature in Photoshop!

Make auto-selecting, managing, and identifying Layers so much easier with this brand-new update to Photoshop Beta! With Layer Hover Bounds, learn how hovering over the canvas highlights all the different layers, and hovering over the Layers panel highlights the corresponding layer on the canvas. In this lesson, we will test how it reacts to masking, layer groups, and learn to customize the feature. We will also discuss the limitations and see if this new add-on to the Move Tool really makes a difference. To fix the last issue, every click on the same layer, should cycle for layers bellow it. This is how 3D softwares works, also how Unity Engine works.
When you click on other layer, or outside, it will reset the counter. If a single click isn't good for you, double click may be better, but I like single click.

I think this is a helpful tool that will be useful in certain situations. If you label all of your layers then I don't think it's necessary, but if you receive a file from another designer to work on this could really help you to make changes more quickly and easily than going through manually trying to figure out what layer is what.

Other than trying experimental features, are there any significant differences between using Beta and regular Photoshop Should I always go with Beta if nothing else changes
Also, how long does it usually take for a Beta feature to be implemented in the final version Or does it depend on the feature Thanks!

Hmmm... My quick idea for auto-selecting layers when hovering if there are multiple layers under ones completely covered by top layers: When hovering over them, it of course selects the top most, but if you like maybe scroll the mouse wheel you can have it go down to the very next layer under it. Maybe

About the question: my solution was always lock the layer. But is annoying when you need to delete a group with a locked layer inside. So they could just do an option that the layer don't be selected by the auto select, that you can turn on and off for each layer.

A good idea would be to highlight the layers even though they are behind some layers when you hover over them. This way, we can select the layers that are visible but under a solid color layer like in the example you showed. Lets see what the photoshop team does.

For selecting behind, there's usually a cmd click, but you need to have the bounds of a selection selected. If they enabled more ways to toggle through or see possible selections with hover, that'd probably work better albeit needs some testing and validation.

I feel like this deserves a 'finally'. Something like this should've really shipped with the auto-select feature, but at least now we have it they've achieved a really polished version.

i would suggest a hotkey to ignore first layer such as that way any solid, gradient get ignored if they are at the top of the layers maybe that would be helpfull

It's actually crazy that it took over 30 years for this to be implemented. One would think this would be one of the first things to get attention.

Maybe use the same function in illustrator to turn ON outline mode (command/control Y) to select the individual layers below 6:33

When it comes to the top layer problem, if you lock the layer, it will not get selected and you can hover/select the below layers.
