5 Free Software That Are Actually Great!

There are a lot of free programs that you can get for your computer. Some can be quite bad. The 5 free software in this video are actually great and can replace software you d normally have to pay for! Most of which are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. For people wondering what speccy pro does: it literally just allows you to automatically download updates for the program from within the program without having to go to their site to download the new version, this used to be the way at least. So unless it's changed save your money and spend it on something better

I've been in IT for a long time and the base 3rd party software that are free that I always install are the following: WingetUI (software update manager), TreeSize Free (let's me know what is taking up a lot of disk space), RevoUninstaller (to uninstall software that cleans everything in the reg), CPU-Z (Software to give me information about my hardware), ImageGlass (awesome image viewer compared to Windows), GIMP (for editing pics), Notepad ++ (great text editor), LibreOffice (replacement for Office products that are free with NO ADS!), Sumatra PDF (for all my PDF needs), and Thorium Browser (Best browser for speed and to remove ads). For the Nerd builds i do, i add Powershell, Windows Terminal, Everything Search, Glary Utilities, Rufus/Etcher, sometimes PowerToys, and Wazuh.

Looked up the Ninite webpage, for the first sight, everything looks good. But -
- some software in the list is self-updating (like messengers and browsers) and hence don't require Ninite or similar utilities
- some software is obsolete like ImgBurn and won't update ever
so what's the whole point and where's the catch?

Good information. With the collapse of the supply chain and the collapsing financial situation, people s ability to 3D print at home will become increasingly valuable (similar to ink printer revolution). Why not get a jump on this and do a video on 3D printers, 3D software, and 3D companies (like my company -smiles)

Ninite is awesome. It will save you a lot of time and effort if you frequently switch computers, or responsible for managing an inventory of computers. Highly recommend. VLC is rock solid for its function. GIMP is powerful, but steep learning curve. I have no exposure to the other software featured in the video.

Even better than WPS Office Free is LibreOffice. Unlike WPS Office which is not really free as some features (in particular the PDF ones) are only available in the paid (and very expensive) Pro version LibreOffice is entirely 100% free, has a much more intuitive and easier UI and gets updated way more often.

Differences to your list that I use all the time, HWInfo64 / Speccy, LibreOffice / WPS, Irfanview / Gimp. I don't like Ninite, or other 'collated' software services, though I can see why many people do like them!!. VLC is awesome!

Jarte - lightweight word processor
Explorer2 by Zabkat - file manager
Fastone - image viewer and editor
Vivaldi - browser
Agent Ransack - desktop search engine
Ecosia - internet search engine

I agree with your choices, but have a bone to pick with WPS on linux. I have tried it several times, always with a clean install and it crashes constantly on linux. As a result, I have turned to Only Office.

I would love to see a video on note taking software. I would love to know what you think are the best ones... hopefully open source unlike evernote that keeps changing the free plan over the years

What do you think about the fact that Speccy is produced by CCleaner? I believe you have said yourself In other videos that CCleaner is now pretty worthless. Any concerns?
reply

Nobody mentions Windiff. Very specialized use, but the best ever within the narrow confines of the program, and absolutely essential when you need to compare two files.

Here's a free one that should be mentioned. Panda Cloud Cleaner. It's free and does a good job cleaning your PC! Recommended bye my internet provider Xfinity,(Comcast)

Not so sure people should trust Speccy since its made by Piriform. Same company that made CCleaner, and we know how trustworthy that software is now days...

What free software do you use that you would recommend for others to use? Hopefully this video was useful for you and thanks for watching!
reply

5:14 It offers Opera?...that's spyware, yet doesn't offer Brave or TOR? Also missing MEGA and torrent apps such as qBittorrent.

More excellent recommendations from BIT! Yet another video that I have to dispense to others for viewing! Thanks!
