What he's saying is completely true. I actually discovered this fact on my own. I used to do complete dumbbell flys with less weight until i realized that the stretch at the bottom of the motion was no different then a regular press motion. The squeeze at the top of the motion of the fly is significantly felt by the chest and something you don't get with a regular press. Now, I do a press motion with much heavier dumbbells and squeeze at the top like in fly motion to get a much better chest workout. You have gave this guy credit. he totally knows what he's talking about.

Your chest can not be -isolated- in this exercise because one of the main functions of the chest is that it horizontally adducts the arm so your anterior deltoid is also involved along with the coracobrachialis which is the muscle that is being given that extra stretch. Not your pec major. That is why he is saying this exercise is no different then a bench press except for the fact your putting your shoulders in a more vulnerable spot for injury.

wow, even if you are just sitting and copying the movements to get an idea, you can feel the muscle in question. That is so cool!
I came to this video after the FB page linked to a different one about a benchless press. I have a flat bench and dumbbells, so that wouldn't work for me. I remembered seeing this earlier, but couldn't remember if it would work the upper chest. It does!
Dang, learning so much!

What does supination have to do with working or not working the upper chest? The modification you did to target the upper chest was tucking the elbows which changed the angle the humerus moves and transformed adduciton to flexion. Doing this with the forearms mid-pronated, which is a more natural and safer position in my opinion, would provide exactly the same benefit in terms of targeting the upper chest.

I'm 50 and ripped. Been pumping since 15 years old. I've made every lifting mistake possible and plenty of injuries. This cat by far knows what he is doing. Wanna ruin your shoulder? Drop elbows to far down on pressing moves, and do some heavy worthless flys. Your videos teach everything I had to learn the hard way over the past 35 years. Wish your videos were available back in the 80's! Peace Bro!

You mean you can't look like Ronnie Coleman naturally? LOL! If you base what you do solely on what others do--to look like them--maybe you should look into EVERYTHING they do! I see so many people doing -chest- movements only to get up rubbing their shoulders. Huh? Maybe Ronnie Coleman's chest will appear one day out of all that shoulder distress! Doubtful!

This is THE most knowledgeable, mature, no BS advice I have found on the net. I'd like to see him and Pavel Tsatsouline come together--would be mind blowing. The only reason I haven't bought his program is that I follow almost exclusively bodyweight exercises, because I travel so much and hate weightlifting anyway. Thanks for getting this out there Jeff!

What about the function of the chest being to pronate the upper arms? Wouldn't it be better to rotate the DBs the other way at the top? Squeeze you chest muscles with your arms straight out. You will get a better contraction with your thumbs towards each other. Supinating the wrists at the top doesn't really do anything.

1)flys are for isolation of chest with no tricep involvement. press ia 65%chest 35%tricep
2)you want to protect shoulders harm for flys stretch and you do rotate presses. do that with heavy weights and you ll rip of your rotators.
3)incline bench cant be replaced with that movement exept you lift 10lbs
