Get a Bigger Chest from Dips (AVOID THESE)

Dips are one of the best ways to build a bigger chest, but that-s only if you learn how to do them right. First of all, many people will not lean far enough forward when doing the chest exercise to maximize the impact on the chest. The further forward you lean, the more likely you are going to hit your chest rather than shifting the load to your shoulders and arms. That said, this isn-t even the most common mistake when performing dips. In this video, I show you how to avoid two errors that are made at the shoulders during this chest exercise that diminishes the results you see from it. If you want to build a bigger chest you have to try and keep as much tension on the pecs during the exercises that you perform for them. The shoulders have a way of taking away some of the load in an effort to try and assist the chest. This is not what you want if you are trying to build as big a chest as possible. You will see in a poorly performed dip that the shoulders have assumed a shrug position. It is hard to avoid this if you aren-t consciously aware that you are doing it in the first place. Just by grabbing the handles of the dip bars and then stepping away from the bars and sinking into position, you are likely to allow your shoulders and traps to drift upward. Not only does this take some tension away from the pecs but it also tends to shoot your shoulders into a forward posture which can jeopardize the integrity of the anterior capsule. To do this right you have to remember to set your shoulders and keep your shoulder blades depressed throughout the movement. You can do this by focusing on keeping the traps from rising up at any point during the dip. Even when you lower your body down you want to be sure that you prevent your shoulders from shrugging up. By doing this, you can keep the chest in a position to maximally help you during the movement. Just as during a bench press movement you would want your pecs to be able to assist the pressing of your arms away from your body, the same applies here. Try to do what I-m showing you in the video and you will instantly feel the difference between the two positions

first and foremost I am addicted to doing dips and I thought the simple leaning forward and leaning back was the essence of the dip but ever since I used the same laws of the pull up with the shoulders back and shoulder blades and things of that nature I have stimulation in my chest so incredible right now I had to come here and leave you a salute thank you very much I'm always down for you I love you videos I love your outlook on fitness and nutrition get it in her mind body and soul

hey Jeff today at the gym, the owner of the place tried to tell me that touching the bar off my chest was a good idea. Yet, when I tried telling him why I stopped a few inches above due to my shitty right shoulder, and because that's where my arms get to 90 degrees and I can really feel it. The thing of it is though is he tried making some excuse that stopping the bar above the chest would cause joint and shoulder problems. Is it true at all?

So basically, a part of me wants to get in better shape and get bigger muscles, look nice, but the other part of me says I don't want do the workout and it doesn't really matter.
I once worked out for a month but dropped it due to lack of motivation. How can I get motivated and maintain it?

I would like videos made WAY MORE LIKE THIS
THIS is why I watch other people, because they're so comfortable and sharing. I dunno. Your marketed self is alright, but this doesn't feel like you're trying to sell something along side your sincere self. It just feels raw.

Hi Jeff! My 16 year old son gas winged shoulder blades and very slight scoliosis. How can I apprtoach to correct that? I assume it would not be only strengthening serratus anterior muscles. Laso how to deal with that with a head forward posture?

hey. I notice you don't have any videos on neck stretching or forward head posture reversal? I'd be very interested in hearing how your knowledge addresses neck injury correction. specifically compression injury

I notice the wristband from the hospital, my prayers go to you and your children Jeff. I too know what it's like to live in and out of the NICU. But great advice thanks for still being dedicated to Athlean X.
