Wow I feel like I found this video at just the right time. Im not a serious lifter by any means. I have a series of injuries to my hamstring, knee and lower back that I think were all related. I use the 45 degree bench regularly. It helps my back pain a lot and has seemed to help strengthen my hamstrings a bit, but Ive been hyper extending at the top just like you said beginners tend to do. I probably cant use much weight but I think this exercise is going to help me a lot. It seems to target a bunch of areas Im weak in. Thanks for posting this.

Ive experimented with this movement extensively over the past year or so and Ive found that dumbbells(two, holding one in each hand, not how Jeff depicted it here) work much better when you make sure you lock everything in, you can overload it to the same extent as long as your gym has dumbbells that go heavy enough, its easier to get full range of motion unless youre using a bunch of 10s or 25s, and its harder to keep everything locked in so it overloads even more

Hello, I was losing 2lbs a week on a 2200 calorie diet Doing stomach vacuums and abbs daily as well as training 3 times a weekI bumped up my calories after 2-3 weeks and now find myself at 3000 calories, before bumping my calories I weighed 173, now I weigh 170? Even though I've kept everything the same apart from bumping up calories by 800 What's happening? :/

Its a cool video very instructional and all. But useless to me. I dont own a machine like this at my home gym. I do plenty of other equipment. Maybe if I join a gym it will be helpful. However, I doubt I will What for I have my own stuff. Unfortunately cant have every machine out there.

Jeff I disagree. Heavy deadlifts are better for one simple reason: more load. Over time more load translates to better CNS and overall muscle gain. Your exercise is great for accessory work, but could never be a foundational yoked exercise and you sort of frame it that way.

the problem with using the barbell like that is putting your arms down cuts the ROM wayyyy short, im very lucky that my gym has a special hyper for powerlifting thats raised around 1 ft above the ground so you can do this exercise with a full rom using a barbell

How much weight are you going to use on a back extension? Not enough to overload your traps most certainly. If you want to build your traps and lats, a stiff legged deadlift, snatch grip deadlift or even a regular deadlift would be far more superior.

I do these lower back extensions holding a 25-45lb plate to my chest and the getting a lower back pump is unlike any other pump, think an arm pump is painful, everyone should try these going to be walking like a hard erection after

That's great that you always have scientific data to back you up. I would like to see you try different things and tell everyone work works best for you. What works best for you is the main catalyst to successful bodybuilders.
